Peter arrived in the shuttlebay almost fifteen minutes after he’d left the Bridge. He’d stopped by his office to arm himself properly before going down. In the Turbolift a reflexively checked the knives in his sleeves, the back of his neck, his lower back and then flexed his legs to feel for the ones hidden in his boots. His friends often mocked his overabundance of bladed weapons but he found them comforting, his time spent out of Starfleet ingrained that in him although he rarely needed to use them. As always he muttered to himself “Knives don’t run out of energy cells”. He chuckled drily, he’d never seen a phaser run out of energy in his life but he had experienced inhibitor fields before.

He was joined by a young NE security officer he didn’t recognize and the pair entered the Shuttle and began the pre-launch sequence “NE Tessa is it not?” He asked her and was given a slow nod “Let’s go” He said as he started the launch sequence and set the coordinates for the strange alien Vessel.

Tessa nodded and fell into step easily behind and to Peter’s left as they entered the shuttle. The NE smiled and nodded as she took the other seat and assisted with the pralaunch. “Yes, Sir. JG Tessa Walters, Sir. Tessa is easier in a pinch.” She was brunette with her hair drawn back in a coiled braid at the base of her neck, tight and regulation perfect. At five foot nine inches, she was a compact power house of muscle and determined movements. She silently mirrored his actions as if they had done this a million times together. Each check done a split second before he asked. Within a couple moments, they were ready to go.

Her own side arm phaser was attached her right hip in just the place he would expect it to be. As they settled back into the seats to depart, he would notice a small object under her left shift sleeve near her wrist. Trained eyes would notice the slight outline of a blade slid under the fabric. Perhaps would even raise the curiosity of what other weapons were about her.

“Clear for launch, Lieutenant,” she said a second later as the clearance danced across their screens.
