Sharah carefully dumped the water from the water bowl and refilled it, adding 1 ml of plant food to it before gently settling Hope’s basin back into the water bowl. She wondered how Dinui’s trees were doing. Her previous ship’s counselor and she had spent many long hours taking care of the 9 different plants. She’d even taken a few cooking classes from Dinui, the first attempts were dismal, but Sharah was getting better. Her focus was excellent, her cooking skills…not so much, but it was fun. And as Dinui always reminded her, that’s all that mattered. And as long as Sharah had a replicator cooking could just be for fun. She set the small tree down on the low central table. “Well smaller than on the Ark Angel, but I think I like it better,” she commented to the small tree. She picked up her PaDD as it beeped reminding her of her counseling appointment. She glanced down at the reminder, “Time to start over.” Or not…Cmdr Korczak? A shiver of apprehension travelled down her spine. She’d liked the man, but she wondered how he would deem her now, a year and a half, almost two years later. Would he find her improved? Would he even remember her with the number of cadets that paraded through his office?

Several minutes later, tugging her uniform straight, Sharah pressed the chime to Korczak’s office.

Lt jg Fayth, Med

The door slid open and the office on the other was unlike any area in the rest of the ship… But an almost exact mirror of the office on the Challenger when she first encountered the CNS Korczak.

It was lit in a more subdued manner than the rest of the ship, with the light coming from wall lamps rather than the typical overhead lighting. Multiple bookcases with glass enclosed shelves lined one wall, filled with copies and originals of many texts on many different subjects, and a quick glance would show multiple languages as well. The desk was set at an angle against the opposite wall to the door in the corner, allowing for a large open space in the middle. Here there was a couch and a few chairs, one of which sat in front of and facing away from the desk. A low table graced the middle of the area, and on it was a small bowl filled with softly glowing crystals that now cast soft multi-colored lights around the room.. Pictures hung on the walls, some were even old photographs. Each depicted either places, individuals, or groups of people, and many were in black and white.

Sharah stepped in and was inordinately pleased to find the space to be so familiar. Sharah had been in a lot of therapist offices during her life time, and Korczak’s was so unique. The feeling of the room seemed to clearly reflect the feeling of the man’s presence.

The Counselor was still wholly plain looking; in fact so nondescript that he almost blended in with the office. His voice, on the other hand, was as distinctive as ever.. “Hello again. It seems we are destined to get through at least one full check-in.” and he chuckled softly.

Korczak, CNS

Despite Sharah’s apprehension she smiled. She was aware that her apprehension was more a reflection of her own self judgement than, in this case, Korczak’s. “Cmdr Korczak, how have you been?” Compared to the last time he had seen her, there were still signs of strain present but she was also more confident than she had been on Challenger, and there would still be moments of apparent distraction.

Fayth, med

“I have been well. I trust you have been improving since our last meeting, brief as it was?” and he smiled a warm smile. “Come. Sit. Would you like something to drink? I was about to make some tea.” and he stood from behind the desk and took a small wooden box off a shelf behind him.

Korczak, CNS

Sharah found a seat in one of the chairs and got comfortable. The idea of tea mad want almost chuckle sneak out. “Tea would be nice.” Most of the time she drank water. She didn’t mind tea. Dr Zarath though thought horrible concoctions of herbal teas would fix whatever was bothering her…and some of them were vile. But she missed the Andorian CMO. “I am doing much better than when we last spoke.” Especially considering she had been sick from a parasite at the time.

Fayth, med

Korczak pulled out some small, white triangles from the box and went to the replicator. He ordered hot water in a tea pot, and pulled the container form the replicator and dropped in the triangles and then closed the lid. He set the pot on the small table and took a seat. He had no PaDD, no way of taking notes, just sat and smiled. “I am very glad to hear that. Tea will be ready in a moment. Until then, why don’t you tell me what you have been up to since last we spoke?”

Korczak, CNS

Sharah took a deep breath, ordering her thoughts above the never ending noise. “After Challenger I was assigned to the Europaalong with most of my class. Dr. Zarath helped me expand my cadet project into a full research project. I had the opportunity to return to the Academy to present it. It got me noticed by the captain of the Ark Angel and I was transferred there as a botanist, and some how I ended up being made the CSO. After Ark Angel’s last mission I realized I wasn’t the right person for that job. I did well, I enjoyed the challenge, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do withy career, and I don’t feel I was a match for the position. I wanted to go back to medical, but there were no openings on Ark Angel, so I took a transfer here.” That was a brief synopsis of the whirlwind her career felt like. “I made a very good friend on Ark Angel, Tabris Asam. He is very different, and has some of the wildest stories. I guess that happens when you’re over 200 years old. He’s El-Aurian. He adopted 4 children. Neltus, Vedi, Mecona, and Julin.” Her face brightens at the thought of them. “Tabris asked me to be their godmother. I adore them…Oh I’ve started learning how to cook. It’s a disaster most of the time, especially if I’m caught off guard and get distracted, but I’m enjoying it.”

Fayth, med

Korczak nodded and smiled. “That is excellent. Yes… very good indeed. And a far cry from where you were as a Cadet on the Challenger. You said then ‘I just want to do a good job as a doctor and graduate. I think it’s better that I stay to myself.’ It seems that perhaps that perspective has shifted a great deal. Tell me about that.”

Korczak, CNS

She remembered feeling that way, and the way he said it left Sharah with no doubt he was quoting her. He may have simply read his old notes before this session, but she remembered he took no notes, nor was he taking any now. Hmm…well they all had their gifts didn’t they? “In some ways, I still feel that way. I don’t think…” her eyes flicked away for a moment and then back, “I don’t think I will ever be comfortable in large crowds or groups.” That surprise promotion had been overwhelming… “I have been lucky to find people who are accepting. Ashlynn… Trenton, she was a cadet on Challenger too. She refused to give up on me. Then being a DH forced me to be more… accessable not just on duty but off as well. I enjoy genuine interactions with others, but I also have to be very careful…very aware of having time to recharge…” There was that far away look again, but it was unclear if she was distracted or thinking.

“I have discovered since I graduated, people who are understanding and patient, and are good friends. Not like at home. I still encounter people who are judgemental, but they are fewer… usually.”

Fayth, med

Korczak looked at her for a moment and then said “I would ask you think about the last thing you said. Tgat you have discovered people who are understanding ding and patient. Do you mean you discovered 8ndividuals like that? Or, perhaps, you discovered that people have the capacity to be understanding and patient?”

Korczak, CNS

Sharah tipped her head to the side at the question, “That’s a fine line isn’t it?” She exhaled in a rush of breath and closed her eyes to better focus her own thoughts above the noise. Had she discovered individuals like that or the capacity for it? It was easier to not be interrupted by the noise if she verbalized what she was thinking, and Sharah had no qualms about doing so in front of the counselor. “Ashlyn was distrustful of others and took a long time to open up, but she was infinitely patient with those she thought needed protecting. Dr. Zarath was patient and methodical and compassionate, but in a way that was different from anything I had encountered before. I think it had to do with his work before he became a doctor. Tabris…was the embodiment of patience and understanding. I’m a doctor I see endless examples of the capacity for patience and understanding and compassion every day....hmm…but that didn’t start when I joined Star Fleet Medical Academy did it?” She was quiet a long time, examining memories....”I think, perhaps…I discovered individuals with an over abundance of those traits who helped me find the capacity to be patient and understanding of myself.”

Fayth, med

Korczak nodded and then leaned forward and began pouring the tea.

Now, there are many advantages to having an eidetic memory. But a significant disadvantage is that connections between points of information can be can quite sudden and unexpected… and it was one such connection that occurred and caused Korczak to jerk suddenly and spill hot tea over his leg. “OW! Gówno, które boli za gorąco!” he yelled and stood up, setting the pot down heavily and grabbing the towel it had sat on. He made sure to focus on the physical pain, knowing the ‘gift’ his current guest possessed. “Ow ow ow… Lieutenant I am so sorry. Please, would you mind giving me about 30 minutes to remedy this? I do so apologize. If you would excuse me, I will change and we can resume… if that is alright with you?”

Korczak, CNS

Sharah was up in an instant to the replicator and then back with a cold damp towel wrapped around ice and gave it to him to put across his leg. “The cold will pull the heat out. Do you need me to grab a med kit?” She didn’t know off hand if the water was still boiling inside the pot, her concern was if the water had actually burned or blistered the skin. Sharah nodded, “Of course Cmdr. I don’t mind at all. Do you need to go to sickbay?”

Fayth, med

“No, no… it will be fine. Just a half hour and we can continue. Thank you.”

He waited for her to leave and then went to the desk. Pressing the comms he said =/\= Lieutenant Commander Korczak to Captain Asam. Please come to my office immediately, Captain. This is a priority.=/\=

Korczak, CNS
