Peter left the 12 Forward lounge feeling decidedly amused, that Klingon First Officer was certainly a paranoid individual, an attribute Peter would normally applaud but he felt it decisively unnecessary now, Starfleet Intelligence wouldn’t really need to learn about this strange alien before they’d have a chance to learn more and he couldn’t learn more until they’d start talks so why not use this time to enjoy yourself.

He moved across the hallways and a short turbo lift trip returning in front of the holodeck. He saw that it was occupied, curiously he checked the occupancy record and for a moment he frowned at the name, Darz again. He quickly lost his train of thought and turned to the nearby holosuite and entered the program he had in mind. After a moment the panel beeped letting him know the program was ready.

He entered a gym, more precisely it was the Starfleet Gym in San Fransisco. He walked across the familiar halls, whenever he was on Earth this was his preferred exercise yard. They had some of the most diverse equipment from gravity weights to actual metal weighted plates, several different forms of swimming faculties, and anti-gravity rooms. He walked over to the nearest weight lifting station and examined them thoughtfully, he finally decided what to do and began stretching to prepare the muscles he would work on today. Exercise was, in his humble opinion, one of the greatest ways of self-fulfillment and satisfaction there existed in the world.

After a thorough stretching, Peter moved to the physical weights and sat down on a Bench, a holographic person appeared to spot him for the coming benchpress. He eyed the weights then added to them until they weighed a hundred kilograms, it wasn’t a heavy load for him but this was the perfect starter weight for the reps he had planned for. He inclined the bench up until it met his desires then sat down and leaned back then grasped the metal bar and with minimal effort lifted it into the air and started the exercise. This day wasn’t a day for upper body exercise, it was cardio day but lifting heavy things was far more enjoyable and visibly impressive than running across the corridors scaring the living daylights out of the junior crew.

Time passed quickly but Peter finally noticed a slight burn in his muscles and he lowered the weights then after a moment he sat up. He put his hand to his head, he had gathered a little sweat, how long had he been lifting that, it was as if he’d lost all sense of time, only enjoying the sensation of lifting something. He stood up and walked for a few meters before coming across a rack of dumbells. He looked for a moment before picking a pair from a lower end of the rack, some of the more heavy weights there. He began an exercise, he wasn’t sure if he’d cooled down or not but the act of lifting enticed him, called him to continue.

Peter looked at his reflection and frowned at himself, no more precisely he scowled at himself then at his weights. He dropped the heavy exercise equipment to the floor and they landed with a heavy clang. Several of the holograms looked in his direction but quickly returned to their preprogrammed routines. He looked around the room scanning each hologram carefully, he knew all by sight as he had programmed this room himself, nothing was out of the ordinary with the program but he could remember starting the program itself. He looked back at his reflection, he was still wearing his uniform and had been exercising in it, he never exercised in his uniform, putting aside the fact that he respected his uniform too much it simply wasn’t practical. He could feel the throwing knives in his sleeve and behind his neck. The Karambit was still holstered in the small of his back. He squatted in place and checked his boot knives and they were also in place, he hadn’t undressed or disarmed as if he’d been too excited, in fact, he had been excited to work out. He remembered the feeling that nothing but his enjoyment had mattered at that moment.

He stood up and did an internal check, he was full so he had eaten recently and very well. He could also taste alcohol and a familiar flavor of tobacco. Immediately he checked his wristband and looked at the time, he was still on duty, why had he been imbibing when he should have been working. That last solid memory was returning with the strange alien to the Viking and a vague recollection of witnessing a meeting with the Captain then asking to be excused. Why would he excuse himself from that meeting and how had he ended up here several hours later with no recollection.

He released a fist he hadn’t noticed he was forming. He could see the marks left by his nails in his hand, he was angry and growing more so by the second… he was almost furious. Somehow he’d been compromised for a time. He needed intelligence on his actions and to figure out if someone else had been compromised and how it had happened. He quietly dosed his anger but didn’t extinguish it, there would be a time for his fury but for now cold analytical thought took over.

CIO

As if sensing the commander’s building wrath, the door to the holosuite materialized and the panel nearby displayed a yellow alert status. The pale amber glow of a force field was also in evidence across the door’s polished surface.
