Kalika was frowning when she left the galley. Why did the XO have to take her pudding. She had never tasted such a decadent dessert. And he had stepped in and swooped it straight from her hands.

The young half Orion turned the corner and stopped. Where had she been going? She frowned and glanced first one direction then the other. Turning left she made her way to the turbo lift. A moment later she stepped out and rounded the hallway’s curve and came upon the holodeck. Tapping her fingers absently over the keypad, she was only vaguely aware of what she was programing.

Tapping the door panel, she stepped in and, as the door closed, called out, “Execute program!”

The door slid shut behind her with a soft whoosh and left her in the program with a smile on her face.

Ten minutes later the security officer was missing her umpteenth ball as a beginner tennis program played. She had managed to hit the small, quick projectile just once. Another growl escaped her lips and she let the next ball fly by her unattended as she turned to the panel by the door. =^=Arch=^= she called in frustration. Time for something less aggressive.

Stepping onto the holodeck would make one forget they were on a starship in space. The sky was a beautiful spread of oranges and reds bleeding into the quintessential perfect sunset.

The deck was covered in sand of such a fine consistency that if you touched it, you’d hardly believe it has once been coarse rocks.

And the view out towards the horizon was just as beautiful. The surf lolled against the shore in slow, lazy recurrences like the hushed heartbeat of some great unknown creature. And just beyond the surf line, a long arm rose up to disappear into the water. Then the other arm appeared to reach for the sky, only to give up and retreat once more. Over and over Kalika stroked in long even measure parallel to the beach. She was oblivious to everyone, including the figure observing her as the arch disappeared behind them.

After about fifteen more minutes, Kalika emerged from the surf and dried off with the t-shirt usually worth under her uniform. Putting her uniform back on, she ended the program and headed back into the corridor.

Blinking rapidly a moment, she shook her head as if momentarily confused. The half Orion glanced down at the wet shirt in her hand and frowned. What has she been doing? More than a little confused, but not willing to admit it, Kalika turned to go down the hall towards security. She was in the middle of.... something. But try as she might, she couldn’t remember what.

But something told her it had to do with the new XO. And it wasn’t a pleasant thought.

As if summoned by her dark thoughts, the lights in the corridor went from blue to yellow just as a force field sizzled to life in her path. The hum in the air behind her told her that she’d find another the hard way if she wasn’t careful. The door to the holosuite, however, was still open and unimpeded.

“Uh, Lt Darz?” The uncertain voice came from behind Kalika; sounding much more like a question than the statement it was likely intended to be. If she were to turn around, Kalika would see a pair of security Ensigns; Sal Odendecker and Junta Pascal - it was the latter who had spoken; the tall, slim woman half raising a hand as if to wave to her superior officer. “We’ve uh, we’ve been tasked to detain you, Ma’am…” Junta half turned to her companion Sal; looking to the shorter man for guidance.

Kalika startled as the force field went up. A frown covered her face as the half Orion turned to see what all had occurred. Turning back to the voices, she looked confused. “Ummm Detain me? I don’t understand. I don’t even know what I’m doing here.” She took a step towards the force field as if hoping it would dissipate on her proximity. When it didn’t, she frowned and stepped back once more.

Shivering from the wetness of her clothes, she crossed her arms. “What is going on and why am I being detained when I don’t even know what I did?” There was an edge growing in her voice that hinted as pending anger. But in her mind, confusion was a more prevalent emotion and it bothered her to no end that she had no idea what she was doing there or why she was wet.

“Uh, I mean, I think that’s part of the problem? That you don’t know what’s going on, I mean - we’re worried that you’ve be- oof!” Sal’s explanation was cut short as Junta elbowed him in the ribs before taking over the explanation. “Sorry Ma’am; I don’t think we’re allowed to tell you too much right now. Just… well, please believe me when I say it’s in your best interest. You aren’t in trouble or anything, but there’s uh.... well…” She paused, not sure what all to share.

“Well, tell you what, let’s get you a towel and then head to the medbay, okay?” There was kindness in Junta’s eyes, and Sal managed an awkward smile as he lowered the forcefield.

No longer hindered by the force fields, Kalika turned back into the archway of the holodeck and grabbed a replicated towel. Rubbing her hair a moment to make it stop dripping, she draped the towel around her shoulders and shook her head. “This makes no sense,” she mumbled as she turned towards medical, her escort flanking her. “Anyone able to tell me *anything?” There was a grumbled edge to her voice. Medical was a good place to start. Sharvi would know what to do.
