Stehla nodded, “Yes and it’s driving me crazy. Especially between my brow ridges.” The rash was red and bluish-purple patches along the back of her neck and shoulders. But there were strange purple spots along the brow ridges and on her knuckles. But along her knuckles it might have been bruising from hand to hand or boxing training. Stehla thought about it for a moment. “No, I’ve been trying to remember, but everything has been pretty boring around her lately. And I’ve not eaten anything different. It all comes from the replicator.”

“I’m going to take scans to see if there’s anything on your skin, and then if there isn’t, I’m going to take a few basic scans to see if anything in your body is causing them.” Mika explained, using her tricorder to do the scans.

Stehla nodded her understanding. Scans showed there was nothing on her skin that would suggest a cause for the irritation. Basic scan would again show the elevated enzyme level. Results from the lab would be another hour to determine the type. Her weight was down almost 10 pounds from her last exam, her temperature was up 2 degrees from the average of her exams (this could be nothing since Klingons run hotter than humans but she was only half human, and scans of her core muscles showed some loss of density.

Mika read the scans. There were no irritations, enzymes elevated and she’d have to wait to see which one or ones. She checked how long ago the previous exam was. “Have you been trying to lose weight recently?” Depending on the age of the previous exam and intent to lose weight, 10 pounds could be a considerable loss, especially with the loss of muscle density as well. She wasn’t too concerned about the temperature but noted it anyway, if it went up, it could indicate infection, or at least immune activity.

Stehla looked perplexed, she kind of twisted in her trunk and then slumped back, no longer sitting up straight. “No. Actually I thought I might be gaining some weight because my training times haven’t been as good, gotten slower, not able to press as much weight. But now that you say that my uniform is a bit baggy.”

Mika nodded, hiding her frown to keep her face neutral. “I’m going to wait on the results for one more test before I decide what to do, but I can give you something to help with the rash, a cream that should help the pain and itching. Is that okay?” She added the weight loss if ten pounds and the muscle density loss to her notes. By themselves, there were just too many things that could cause those. The enzyme test could narrow it down.

Stehla nodded, “Yes of course.” The security officer practically growled. That meant the doctor was going to touch the rash and that meant pain. What had her mother said, ‘To suffer through pain quietly was the mark of a warrior’s or some Klingon claptrap like that. She didn’t like pain and wasn’t going to suffer quietly. “Can you numb it first?”

Stehla K’tolvog

Mika thought a moment. “The cream is a numbing agent, and I don’t want to double you up on meds. A cream is just the most effective way to deal with something like a large rash. It’ll hurt to apply it but it won’t take long to feel better.”

When Stehla was ready, Mika applied the cream to the rash gently but thoroughly, not missing anywhere, with gloved hands. When she was done, she stepped back. “There, that should start helping. We’ll keep trying to find the cause, but that’ll make it more comfortable while we do. It’ll start wearing off in four to six hours”
