Several months ago
It happened all the time. People appeared, disappeared, reappeared and disappeared again. Every day the personnel count on the Viking could fluxuate from 1 to as many as 10 people. Several decks were uninhabitable, cordoned off because they were a hazard. Nothing that could be fixed easily, yet no explanaition for why systems were failing.

She had been escorting a set of engineering workers to one of those decks when Kalika and the two Ensigns became part of those who ‘disappeared’ on that day.

Today

The hall lights were flickering. It wouldn’t have caught anyone’s notice except that there wasn’t supposed to be power on this deck. Without warning there was a loud scream, almost animalistic, then silence. If anyone investigated, there was a body, face down, on the deck. Sleeves and pant legs tattered as if the person had been living in them for years, or had been in a fight and lost. Skin over hands and face were lightly charred with second degree burns. Edges of the material also scorched on closer investigation. The light green skin hinted at someone with mixed Orion lineage. But with the collar torn, no rank badge, no comm badge and lack of consciousness, identity would only come if someone who knew Kalika before her disappearance was the one to come upon her. Only her tatters of her security uniform gave away she was from the Fleet.

Missing ex COS

OOC:Mind if I pop in?

David hadn’t been paying much attention to his surroundings but even half distracted he couldn’t have missed the way the lights were flickering. Even so he ignored them as part of just everyday Viking being the Viking. The scream though, the scream nearly scared half his wits about him and he found himself immediately he pulled his tricorder out, holding it as if he were holding a phaser and swinging it around him, while slowly backing into the wall.

As his heart slowed it’s racing and his breathing reverted back to normal he slowly stepped away from the wall, inching forward his eyes checking every blindspot he could think of. He had promised Cerenity that he wouldn’t become one of the ‘missing’ and he was determind to keep that promise. At least until he found his sister. Just as his brain was about to wonder down that path, his eyes caught sight of Darz’s body. His first thought was that it was Harry, back from the dead. But as he took stock of the body the Orion green skin, and yellow Security uniform, he knew it couldn’t be.

He knelt down next to Darz, stifling the disappointment with concern for this person laying before him - whoever they might be. His new patient might not be Harry, and maybe not even be able to give him any clues about his sister, but he felt compelled to help. The only medical equipment he had on him was his tricorder, but scanning her was a good place to start.

Dr Harrington

Viktoryia had been making sure the off limit area didn’t have any unwanted crew in them when she heard the scream. She nearly crashed into the doctor as she rounded the corner to see what had happened. The doctor had been covering her view, but as she halted before running into him she saw the yellow of the uniform, and her heart sank. Could it really be her she had been gone so long, but the captain remained hopeful as she stepped over the officer and knelt down across from the doctor.

“Is she going to be okay” she asked as her own heart tried to leap out of her chest. Kalika had been one of her closest friends before her disappearance, and often times Vik had been lost without her.

Viktoryia Ravenfall, CO

Her breathing, while slightly shallow, was steady. Her heart was the same, steady, thought not where it should be. And the skin, while burnt to second degree in some places didn’t look like it was any worse anywhere they couldn’t see.

Kalika

“She’ll live,” Harrington said slipping his tricorder back into his belt. He carefully placed an arm under Kalika and hoisted her up, using both his arms to stabilise her in a mostly upright position. “We need to get her to sickbay. Would you be able to help me carry her there? I’m afraid my physical condition isn’t the greatest.” The doctor released on of his arms to guesture at his sickly figure. Even though he was still supporting her with his other arm Kalika’s body slipped down and he had to scramble to use his free arm to support her.

Dr Harrington

“I’ll carry her” Viktoryia said as she gently picked her up. For Viktoryia carrying Kalika was easy with her enhanced strength. “Lead the way to sickbay.”

As Viktoryia picked up Kalika and cradled her, almost like a child, a soft moan escaped the woman’s lips. Her still unconscious body seemed to relax after a moment of tension. The once more, she went limp and nearly death still in the woman’s arms.

Kalika

Viktoria pulled Kalika close to her and moved quickly toward the lift. “We have to hurry she doesnt have much time. Once Viktoryia had cleared the debris she quickened her pace. Her friend had just returned and she was hell bent on not loosing her again.

Victoryia pulled the woman closer to her as she made her way quickly toward sickbay. “Stay with me” she whispered as she made her way through the ship. “I cant loose you again.” It had almost broke the young woman when Kalika had disappeared, and to finally have the chance to tell her all the things she had wanted to before. She approached sickbay and looked behind her to make sure the doctor had been able to keep up with her. She entered and found the closest empty bed and gently laid her on the bed “Tath’ihl hurry” she called out as she did so. She waited for the doctor to arrive before stepping back to give him room to work.

Once on the table, Victoryia would be able to see Kalika clearly. Her uniform looked like it had been on her for years. Her rank pips and comm badge were missing. The collar, cuffs and hems all ragged, frayed and singed. Her whole uniform was burned like she had run thru a fire. Her hands, face and neck had second degree burns, and the skin up under the edges of her clothing in those spots were first degree. Saved only by the tattered fabric. She was still in her boots, but the soles were badly burned as well.

Her breathing was labored but not horrendously so. She occasionally whined and moved slightly as if a bad dream had her. But then she would still. Nothing about moving her had wakened her. It was as if she didn’t want to wake up… probably from the pain she knew awaited her outside the blessed, cool darkness she was curled up in in her mind.

Tath turned around from working on an ensign, and saw Kalika laying there. “No way. Kal… I mean, Lt. Darz.” He felt like he was looking at a ghost. He started the bio bed and started getting her signs and assessing her injuries, but it seemed like he was standing still. His emotions seeing her was all over the place, and he was trying to keep them in check, and hoping that Doctor Harrington or the captain didn’t see or notice that, or hoped that it appeared as a former subordinate worried about his once Chief Security Officer, from when he first joined the ship.

A soft moan, barely audible over the noises and conversations in medical, fell from Kalika’s lips as she seemed to relax as if having just fallen asleep. Her face, alone, gave away she was in pain. The scowl lines deep on her brow were more than evident, despite the dirt and ash on her skin around the burned areas.

Lt. Sharvi setup the biobed for Lt. Darz to start scanning how bad her burns and injuries were. “Dr. Harrington, we may need to perform immediate surgery on some of these burns, I’ll prepare that for you.” He said as he was headed to the operation room.

Viktoryia never once left her side. She had made room for the doctors to be able to do their job, but she wasnt sure she would be able to do her own until she knew she was safe.

It seemed like forever, but an hour later, Kalika was in a gown, resting comfortably. She would have some scars, the burns were too deep and long unattended. But her face and hands were fine. The left side of her ribs and her left shoulder down the left side of her back would always show what she had been thru. It hadn’t been deep enough to burn muscle, so she would be fine after a bit of stretching and rehab on her left side to be back to full strength.

All that was needed was final clearance from the Doc to give her a hypo to bring her out of the medically induced sleep she was in now from the operation.

Lt. Sharvi held her hand as he touched the hypo to her neck, and woke her up. “Qaleghqa’neS” he said to her as he checked on her vitals.
