A soft moan, barely audible over the noises and conversations in medical, fell from Kalika’s lips as she seemed to relax as if having just fallen asleep. Her face, alone, gave away she was in pain. The scowl lines deep on her brow were more than evident, despite the dirt and ash on her skin around the burned areas.

Lt. Sharvi setup the biobed for Lt. Darz to start scanning how bad her burns and injuries were. “Dr. Harrington, we may need to perform immediate surgery on some of these burns, I’ll prepare that for you.” He said as he was headed to the operation room.

Viktoryia never once left her side. She had made room for the doctors to be able to do their job, but she wasnt sure she would be able to do her own until she knew she was safe.

It seemed like forever, but an hour later, Kalika was in a gown, resting comfortably. She would have some scars, the burns were too deep and long unattended. But her face and hands were fine. The left side of her ribs and her left shoulder down the left side of her back would always show what she had been thru. It hadn’t been deep enough to burn muscle, so she would be fine after a bit of stretching and rehab on her left side to be back to full strength.

All that was needed was final clearance from the Doc to give her a hypo to bring her out of the medically induced sleep she was in now from the operation.

Lt. Sharvi held her hand as he touched the hypo to her neck, and woke her up. “Qaleghqa’neS” he said to her as he checked on her vitals.

Kalika started to stir. Her lips moving as she fought to come up from the darkness. “I… where… where am…I?” she managed just as she started to open her eyes. Her head turned immediately from the brightness of the light, squeezing her eyes tight as she started to cry. “Please… just… I want to go back…” Her body remained almost eerily still. It was like muscle memory expected her to be strapped down and she twitched, but didn’t move her arms or legs.

“Kal, go back to where?” Lt. Sharvi asked her, still holding her hand and monitoring her vitals.

Tears fell from her eyes as she shivered. “I want to go home…” Slowly her eyes started to open, one hand rising to block the light glare. “Please…” She looked from the doc to the CO and back. A slight frown creased her brow. “I… where am I?” She was remained unmoving, but her hand the Doctor held stiffened slightly like she was fighting to clench it.

“You are in sickbay onboard the USS Viking. You are safe, it’s me, Tath, and Viktoryia is here too.” He told her. He had been so concerned over her disappearance, now that she was back, he was relieved, but worried that she wouldn’t come out of this current state. He mouthed an apology to the captain, after realizing he didn’t give their proper names and rank to her. He needed Kal to realize she was safe and with friends more than with starfleet officers.

She took a deep breath and looked from the Doc to the Captain. “But… you’re dead… I mean…” She closed her eyes a moment and took another breath. Looking at Viktoryia, her eyes a bit filled with fear, she tried not to let the tears behind her eyes well up. “When was the last time you saw me?”

Viktoryia stepped a little bit closer to Kalika as her own voice caught in the back of her throat “You’ve been gone almost a year.” she whispered as she fought back her own tears. She had spent many nights in tears and cursing the ship for taking Kali away from her. she took her hand in her own to give herself some comfort. She wanted nothing more than to hold her in her arms.

Kalika was still a moment more. “A year? It’s been that long?” She suddenly lunged for the Captain, even as a cry of pain fell from her lips as her arm wrapped around the woman’s waist. She was crying, both in pain and relief. And she kept murmuring over and over, “I’m home… I’m home… I’m here…” Whatever had been keeping her stoic a moment ago, was gone. The ex Security Chief was nearly in hysterics now, trying to catch her breath.

Viktoryia wrapped her arms around Kali and just held her for a moment. “You’re safe now!”said and she tried to get her to lay back down. “Breath Kali! Your going to hurt your self even more. Vik glanced up at the doctor hoping he would be able to give her something to calm her down again, but as she waited she on to her.

Tath grabbed a device and put it to Kal’s neck. “This should help with your pain.” He said, surprised she was able to lunge at the captain like that, but he was happy to have her back. A whole year had passed since she left, and it felt like it was just yesterday. He had missed her.

A soft sigh was Kalika’s response to the hypo as she leaned back and inhaled, relaxing. The pain blocker made her body relax for the first time in ages and she in doing that the relief she felt was almost overwhelming. “I don’t know what happened.” She glanced from Tath to the Captain. “One moment I was in the hallway with the others. The next, I was on a biobed being told I had been electrocuted. Apparently there was a power surge and something shorted out in the hallway. It took me a couple days before I realized I wasn’t on the ship… this ship. It’s a mirror verse of some kind. But the ship is in far worse shape.” She felt adrenalin starting to drag her down as it finally seeped from her system. “I was there for … well for however long I was gone. Then there was a battle. I was back in that same hall when a shot compromised the hull. A nearby panel blew off and there was fire… and plasma… and…” She closed her eyes trying to erase the image from her mind. “Last thing I remember is my back on fire and then nothing. Then … here.”

It was painful to remember but she was glad she was here. “So much trouble there… hardly slept… hardly ate…” She looked at them both, one hand still in the CO’s grasp, the other reaching to touch Tath. “I’m sorry… but please, put me to sleep. I want to sleep where I’m safe… please…” She needed to be removed from the derm pads on her back and healed. It would be hours till the regens were done with the multiple cycles her back and arm would take.

Tath put a hypo at her neck. “This will help you sleep.” He told Kalika. When she had closed her eyes, and was sleeping, he turned toward the captain. “It’s going to be a long night for her, I’m going to stay here and watch over her, if you want to go to your quarters and try to get some rest… I can keep you updated on her status, or set up a bio-bed with a blanket for you, no trouble at all. It usually gets cold in here.” The Klingon doctor said. He barely took his eyes off Kal.
