SNIP

Valentina watched the man and smiled. He certainly wasn’t anything like she expected. But that was a good thing. Cookie cutter style officers wouldn’t fit on a ship like the Constellation. To be honest, sometimes the XO, herself, wondered if she fit here. “Well, hello to you as well,” she smiled and took the PaDD to keep the man from hovering. “I’m Valentina Bellini, your new XO. You’re welcome to call me Valentina when we aren’t in an official capacity. Welcome to the Connie. I hope you have a strong spine and fair sense of humor. Those seem to be two things the Federation doesn’t provide that this ship has strong need of in a crewman.” She nodded and motioned towards the door. “I figured I’d help you find your quarters before you start your check in process. How was the flight?”

She moved towards the doors and waited as they whooshed open to see if the new Counselor was going to follow or just stand in the bay wondering what was happening.

XO

Following the Commander he replied,

“The flight was long but I am glad we made it. After spending so much time at HQ on Earth, it has been nice to get away. I think my colorful past will fit right in with the crew here. I can only assume that is why I was given this assignment.”

Lt. Commander Jeremy O’Dell

“Colorful like crayons,” she quipped as they headed for the lift. “It seems this is one of the most eclectic crews I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. And you will certainly have your work cut out for you. From our Engineering Chief pair, brothers I believe, to our Chief of Pets. I have to admit there are stations and duties here that don’t fit on any other ship. But somehow,” Valentina glanced at the man with a slightly odd look on her face, “they seem perfectly normal here.” She shook her head trying to reconcile normal with anything that related to the Constellation.

“I will admit, it will probably be me in your office more times than not. I find I don’t quite have the genetic makeup to be as, well, as artistically chaotic and spontaneously gigglesome as most on the ship. If that makes any sense. I find myself, more often than not, being a voice of reason. Which, in and of itself, is also a strange thing here.” She nodded to the lift and glanced at him. “And I warn you, everything from glitter to whoopie cushions abound here. So always watch yourself going thru doorways, or opening mail of any kind.” She laughed lightly as she palmed the lift then stepped out of the way in case anything came barreling out at them.

(ridiculously cautious)

The Commander did not know what to say. He had come from a universe where everyone was trying to kill you. Here, it seemed, everyone was trying to prank you. That seemed very odd. “I guess I will have very interesting reports to file with Star-Fleet. Because of my unusual circumstances, I must file a full report of my progress and duties here on the ship once every 90 days. Looks like I will have a lot to say…” O’Dell finished as he himself took a step back from the door.

O’Dell, CNS

Valentina laughed as he stepped back. The door opened and a bunch of tribbles didn’t fall out, so the XO was satisfied. “All clear,” she laughed and stepped in, tapping the button for where they were going. “And I am sure your reports will be anything but boring. Just be prepared to filter some of them. I doubt Star Fleet wants to know about glitter coming out of the Captain’s Ready Room air vent, or Engineering programming doors to make whoopie cushion sounds. That’s all I’m saying.”

Being the only near serious one on the ship was interesting to her. So having the CNS seem like a like soul, she was kind of grateful. Wanting to let him feel a bit more secure, she lightly touched his arm before dropping it quickly. “Just know, you aren’t the only voice of reason on the ship. And if things go sideways, my doors are always open. Office and quarters.” She nodded and looked back to the door.

XO
(horrible at flirting lol)

Jeremy walked into his quarters and looked around. “This is real nice, thank you for everything. Please let me know how I can repay you at some point. You have been nice to me” said Jeremy.

However, what he was really thinking was it was nice to be able to turn his back to someone without worrying that a knife could be stuck in it at any minute. That said, he still was on his guard more than anyone else in Starfleet. While he ‘thought’ that the XO was flirting with him–Jeremy decided that he would not respond.
