O’Dell reported to his office for duty. He had arranged the office in a way that made him feel at home. There were symbols of the mirror universe all over his office. There were also some of Starfleet, O’Dell wanted to strike a balance between the two universes. While he could not hide where he came from, he also understood that things were different now. He was no longer a Terran Officer, and he could not treat people that way. It was almost Ludacris that Starfleet had made him a counselor, but it also made some sense. In a way, O’Dell needed the crew to warm up to him, whether or not he liked it, because it was the only way he was going to fit in. As it was, O’Dell did everything he could to stand alone, but Starfleet hoped that the longer he was in their universe, the more their values and ideas would imprint on him.

Andromeda knocked quietly on O’Dell’s door. She’d been notified he had checked in and wanted to drop something off for him before he got started. “I have something for you.” She’d never bothered to shake what her family had called her maternal instinct, finding it served her well in medicine and better in life, so if she wanted to randomly give people gifts, she would.

O’Dell did the un-Terran thing and smiled. “Good morning, doctor” he said motioning for her to come in.

O’Dell

Andromeda nodded to him, setting a small box on his desk. “I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I wanted to drop this off.”

O’Dell did not know how to respond. “A gift for me, doctor? Why thank you” he responded.

Then he started to open it.

O’Dell

Inside the box was a small dagger, seeming like a modified exoscalpel and a box of cookies. “If you end up stabbing someone, you didn’t get that knife from me,” Andromeda warned. “I’m already in trouble for my own stuff.”

“Why thank you, doctor. This is perhaps the nicest thing that anyone has done for me since I arrived. Except, maybe letting me skin and eat the rabbit I saw the other day” replied O’Dell.
