Having heard that the ship genuinely had a ‘Chief of Pets’ Asher had to see this for himself, besides his own curiosity he also had an idea for puppy therapy which was scientifically proven to reduce work-related stress, nothing like a good playdate with half a dozen of cute puppies to help relieve stress. The COP was seemingly hard to track officer because it took him a little longer to finally pin down the woman who seemingly had the best job in Starfleet.

Eventually, though he had her located in the mess hall which was just as well because his stomach had started to rumble. Picking himself up a plate of the fresh food the chef prepared, a lemon chicken sandwich Asher searched the crowd for the woman he had been described. It wasn’t hard because her strawberry blonde hair kind of stuck out. Moving to the table he cleared his throat. “Commander Atoded?” He asked holding his tray in front of him which also had an apple juice in a hexagonal glass.

Despite her strawberry blonde hair identifying her against all the others in the room, upon getting closer Asher would see she was surrounded by three Siberian huskies and a very small rabbit. She looked up with an appraising glance and then smiled. “Ah Lt. Asher Miller. Please have a seat.” She said, standing to shake his hand after he had put his tray down. Her movement got the watchful gaze of the three dogs and the rabbit. All of whom then looked at Asher and then settled back down. “Welcome to Constellation. I was hoping to get to meet you.” She sat back down and reached for her glass to sip at her utta berry juice. “How is your first day going?”

Pleasantly surprised that the woman knew him, or at least knew of his arrival he smiled and sat down taken the seat opposite. “Its going great actually, it seems the last counsellor knew what they were doing since everyone seems happy enough to talk to me and morale is high. It could be that or the free offering of gummy sweet but as long as they open up and speak I’m happy. And how are you doing?” He couldn’t help watching the amass of animals around her, dogs after all were extremely cute.

Brenna laughed, “Well he didn’t do much. He wasn’t here long. Hadn’t even gotten the office chair broken in. But the crew did seem to like him.” She took a sip of her juice and set it back down, “I am doing very well, and please call me Brenna, I’m not on duty right now. I believe we will be working together quite often.” She noticed his gaze and made the introductions, “The three huskies: Geri is the salt and pepper grey, Freki is the black, and Fenris is the brown and grey. And that little thief,” she pointed to the small rabbit waiting patiently for treats to be given from the jar on the table, “Is Luna. She wants one of these.” She slid the jar over. The three dogs didn’t seem to care about the treats. But Brenna slid a bag of dog treats across the table too.

“They’re beautiful” He said not passing the opportunity to do some petting and to win over their trust not that they seemed to have any trust issues. He took out some treats for Luna and held out his hand gently to the rabbit with one hand and his other hand a handful of treats for Geri, Freki and Fenris. “Did you name them?” He asked curious as to thier stories and as to Brenna’s aswell.

Brenna grinned, Luna was not shy at all. She eagerly, but gently, took the treats offered and then thumped the floor with her back feet, impatiently for more. Geri, Freki, and Fenris were gentle and took the treats and then laid back down to quietly eat them. “Thank you. I tend to agree but I’m biased. I named Luna, her color reminds me of the color of the moon back home. But These boys here,” she waved at the huskies, “came already named. They had some very specific training, and were almost a year old when I got them. I could have changed their names, but I like them. Unique and not confused with any other name. I understand they are named for famous K-9s from Norse mythology.”

He gave each dog a stroke and even pet Luna, “Well I mean what a job.” Sitting back up he looked now to Brenna, “Usually I have to use the holodeck for some puppy therapy but having you onboard makes my job a lot more fun. I cant wait to invade gamma shift with a herd of puppies” He joked, “So how did you become chief of pets, I cant lie at first I thought it was a joke.”

“You know you are the first person to ask me that. I’m a counselor by training. I did some research work with a team on the benefits of animal therapy and then the long term benefits of crew that had pets and did not. It’s not a new study, but it’s been a few hundred years since it was approached. And the results were so significant, command allowed us to run a test program on a deep space vessel, and Constellation got picked. And if you love puppies, one of my dogs is due in about 3 weeks, but we just had a litter of kittens. 8 of them, small fluffy, squirmy balls of fluff that think anything they touch is their mother at the moment. You really should come experience them.”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoP

He nodded, “Oh I think that would be amazing! Would it surprise you that I am a firm believer in using puppy therapy? Its an amazing stress and anxiety reliever for almost any species, I’ve even seen it work on Klingons would you belive it!” Asher was genuinely thrilled that the Constellation took the welfare for its crew so seriously that it had someone just for pets, no wonder why the crew seemed so happy.

“Puppy therapy is amazing. Unfortunately I can’t promise we will always have puppies, but there are plenty of pets to play with. I’m happy for you to use them in therapy. They get a little lonely with just me and the Tony’s for company.” Brenna smiled and then took a sip of her drink. “So Lt what made you decide to come to the Connie?”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoP

Asher was genuinely appreciative of her offer, “Well I saw it time to rejoin a ship and the Connie was one that was in need of a counsellor I’d love to say it was fate or some kind of divine intervention but it was just the first on a long list but I am happily excited to be here and glad that I could be a part of the crew here, it really has that special something.” He explained, “I’ll have to take you up on your pets but… whats ‘the Tony’s?” He asked confused.
