The time of the party was quickly approaching and so Brenna was making the rounds of the departments to see how they were progressing with their plans. Her last stop was to check in with the CO and XO on their speeches. She made her way to the bridge and took her seat and looked over at them, “How is the speech writing going?”

Focus: MC: Greeting, speeches, conflict resolution, and keeping things on track.

Zarcal would be rubbing his temples if that is A) how a Zaranite’s brain worked and B) if he wasn’t wearing his mask. He looked over towards Brenna and said, “I have to make a speech that is respectful in tone and content to members of the Federation that are historically enemies or are the kind that want to be insulted, be logical, be impassioned, or all of the above! So far I have “We are gathered here today....”

Brenna bit back a grin. “Remember Captain this is to honor the Saurian leader. Your speech should honor him and his culture. The guests are delegates and diplomats, so they will expect and respect that. It’s when talking to them individually that you have to remember who you are talking to.”

“Oh I know Commander but I don’t want to make any mistakes that might cause a problem with what was said or wasn’t said. As I’ve been so often told it’s not about what’s said but how it’s received.” Zarcal replied with a light chuckle, partly because he thought it was a little funny but also because it was a way to relieve stress.

Brenna nodded her head in acknowledgement. “That is a very wise philosophy captain. It would all be much easier though if people would try to recognize that and adjust their attitudes accordingly.” A little more understanding and compassion would make the universe a nicer place. But those were pipe dreams and Brenna knew it.

Zarcal spun in his chair a little beofre looking at Brenna and smiling a little beneath his mask, “How are you holding up?”

“Me Sir? Oh I’m fine. Half the delegates will be brining their own pets. I’m going to have Little Tony and Tony the Sneak help add some more habitats, but for the most part I have will have dozens of new furry, scaly, and feathery friends to play with for the duration.” Now if they were not in public on the bridge, but in private, Brenna would tell him she was drowning in intel reports of who had prices on their heads, who had taken out and accept contracts, who was almost at war with each other, and who had generations long grudges. For the most part that was security’s domain. What she was dealing with was determining how assassins and other unsavories might get on board and ruin the fun.

Understanding Breena’s dual role on the ship he said, “Might I ask you to listen to what I have prepared sometime in the near future?” The implication was one of a 1 on 1 conversation that would be totally above board if anyone over heard, but he would also get the juicy details about who was coming too!

Brenna nodded, “Of course Captain. I am at your disposal. Perhaps a working dinner?” It wasn’t uncommon to see Brenna working and eating in the mess hall or carrying meals back to her office. It was good cover and allowed for extra time to be ‘indisposed’ and to appear a bit of a work-a-holic. It also created the impression that if she wasn’t in her office she was working while eating in the mess hall, when really she was in her hidden office.
