Lt. Burcham had his cup of fresh juice from his office in his hand as he walked through the corridors of the ship. He arrived at the new XO’s door, and waited for it to chime to alert LT. Comm. Marsh that he was outside his door.

Richard was alone in his office sitting comfortably at his desk with his feet up reviewing his PADD. He had a tall glass of grapefruit juice on his desk that was three quarters full. He was definitely alerted by the chime notification as he set his feet back on the ground and rose to his feet. He set his PADD down on his desk and set his hands at his sides, as he said in a serious tone, “What’s the password?” A devilish smile came across his face as he awaited the visitor’s reply. Richard absolutely treasured having a fun time with his crew regardless of their rank or position.

“Fruit Juice, freshly squeezed.” Lt. Drake answered. He wasn’t sure what the password was, to be honest. He hoped he guessed right.

Richard shrugged his shoulders casually while sitting at his desk reviewing his PADD, “Come in and please introduce yourself. If you are loitering or offering goods and services please do not waste your time on me. Unless it is something delicious, like key lime pie. That would be fantastic.” He grinned at his own comment and looked forward to meeting his first guest on the Constellation that was not Brenna. He set his PADD down and looked in the direction of the door as it opened.

Lt. Burcham walked in when the door opened and stood at parade rest. “My name is Lt. Drake Burcham, the ship’s Chief of Security. I heard you were getting settled in, so I thought I’d come say hello and introduce myself to you.” He said.

Richard gestured to the seat in front of his desk in response to Drake with his left hand, “Please, have a seat.” He smiled at Drake, “It is nice to meet the Chief of Security, I did that once myself. I am Commander Richard Marsh. Now tell me about your background Lieutenant.” He reached with his right hand and took a gum ball out of the bowl resting on his desk, “Want a gum ball Lieutenant?” He offered in a polite tone of voice.

LT. Burcham sat down, looked at the gumball. “Oh, it’s purple, that should be grape flavor. Thank you, Sir. I grew up in Ohio, my dad was a cop. After graduating the academy, I have served a total of 3 other ships before I got the promotion to be Connie’s Security Chief. I have a brother, also graduated from the academy.” Lt. Burcham said, sometimes breaking to chew on the bubblegum.

Richard placed his elbow on the desk and cupped his chin with his right hand as he carefully studied his new Security Chief. This position was a vital one on the Constellation and he was one in the past so he wanted to ensure that this new one was truly legit, “What has been your greatest challenge in Starfleet and what did you do to overcome it?”

“Coming aboard this ship as the new CoS and majority of the crew is on an away mission, it’s just me, some security staff and the new XO at that time on board, and invisible beings were inside the ship. With the help of that XO, I was able to make it to sickbay, and then the brig and get weapons and we fought them off with the readings on the tricorders and phasers.” He stated. “Then the away team came back, talking about meeting a talking rabbit with a clock, and tweedle dee and tweedle dum, who together became the Chief Engineers for a time, a cheshire cat. It was a weird experience, but by listening to my leadership and taking charge when needed to, all four of us came out alive.” He stated.

Richard listened to Drake’s words carefully and had an expression of interest on his face throughout their conversation. After Drake finished speaking he nodded once in acknowledgement, “Thank you for sharing that experience with me Drake. You know, I was thinking about this before you came in to meet with me today. I actually have a great simulation training holodeck program for various combat scenarios that I want to run through with you. I of course intend to see your skill level, but also find combat scenarios as a great way to connect with a fellow Security officer. What do you say Lieutenant?” He grinned at him, “It will be a lot of fun, that is for sure. I highly suggest that you definitely do not miss out on this opportunity. However, if you do not feel you can handle it, then I totally get it.” Richard chuckled casually.
