Surprised the new science officer had not checked in with her as it was procedure to do so, Pilar tapped on her comm and contacted him. “Halcyone to Luxury-Yacht. Please meet me in science lab 7 on deck 13, as soon as you can.”

It would seem to Pilar that there was an echo as she could hear her voice from not only her own mouth but also from elsewhere in science lab 7. Not far from her, in fact.
In response, she heard the following, both live and through her combadge.
=/\= My name is not pronounced that way, it is written as Raymond Luxury-Yacht, but it is pronounced differently. =/\=
Then a man with a fake large hooked nose and a pair of what seemed to be rabbit ears turned from his station and looked at her.
“My research couldn’t wait. There were results from a research paper from Drunax IV that were important for my presentation on nasal health.”

OOC: I guess you assumed my character was in the science lab. She wasn’t. She was actually in route to the lab when she contacted your character by comm.
IC: Pilar did indeed hear an echo as she enterd the science lab and heard she both voices. She was surprised as she walked in the lab, looked up and seen the science officer. It was not his appearance that surprised her, but the fact he was already at the location she had suggested they meet. “Noted” she said regarding the comment about his name. “I will call you whatever you want me to call you and do my best to pronounce it correctly after you tell me how.”
Then she frowned at the comment about the research paper. “I do not care what you do or what you work on so long as you understand that you are required to follow formalities. One of them is checking in with you department head when you arrive on the ship.” She slightly leaned against one of the stations as she continued, “Also I want to make sure it’s clear and that you understand that the needs of Star-Fleet and this ship, should outweigh and take priority over any other tasks you have going on for any other institution.”

“My name is actually pronounced Throat-Warbler Mangrove. To pronounce it in the way it is written is highly offensive to me and my people. My research is being done at the behest of the Federation Science Council, Chief. It is sensitive and it needs care and attention to make sure the readings are not contaminated by sloppy work. My whole life has been leading up to this, and I’m close to a breakthrough, a breakthrough that will lead to improvements in nasal care for all beings with noses. My poor sister had a bad experience when she was 6. Our father stole her nose, and never returned it to her. She has smelled terribly ever since. Since then, my life is dedicated to improvements in nasal care and the technology involved in nasal care. I have to do it for my sister. That is why I’m in the field of nasal, throat and ear surgery. That is why I have these appendages. It is my passion, it is my curse.” Raymond said to Halcyone.

After pausing for a deep breath, he continued to prattle on. “I am dedicated to my work, you see, and I am dedicated to the facility I’m serving on. It has been years since I worked with another doctor or scientist. The head of facility has always been my direct report. When I got here and you weren’t there in your office, I thought it best I wait here until you got here until you came to your office. I got on with my work and got carried away by it.”

“I sincerely apologise for my rudeness in not contacting you as soon as I had finished with the Captain, Lieutenant Halcyone. It won’t happen again,” he assured her, and he meant it.

“My Science Specialty is in Astronomy. And while I did well in it at the Academy, it was only ever an interest.” Raymond concluded.
