To be serious for a few moments … weird for me, I know, and possibly against the rules of the STF Comedy ship, I wanted to identify a couple of things that probably do need to be updated in the Connie’s charter …

==

The current charter (https://www.star-fleet.com/library/bookshelf/charters/charter-constellation.html) says as follows …

The USS Constellation NCC-1017-H is hereby recommissioned as an alternative role playing area in Fleet 2. It is to be solely a comedy sim ship. Because of its lack of adherence to canon, and its completely unserious characteristics, it is to be a second character only environment.

The Constellation is allowed to change her class without being decommissioned as an Alt RPG. She is currently in service and is hereby confirmed to be successful under the classification of a comedy sim ship and by the following criteria:

1 The Constellation currently has a healthy roleplaying environment with a cast of reliable players who remain on the whole within the outlined AWOL guidelines.
2 The Constellation has managed to function as a comedy ship successfully.

The Constellation will remain a permanent addition to Fleet 2, but if at any time she deviates from the criteria set in this edict, she must be decommissioned.

As a comedy ship, the Constellation is not bound by established Star Trek canon. Players may select characters, abilities, and technology from non-canon and custom sources, with the approval of the CO. However, these freedoms must be treated responsibly, and are allowed for the sole reason of having fun. God characters, cast members from Star Trek canon, and other such restricted character types are still forbidden. While a sim may be silly and fun in any respect, it must be realistic enough to be playable.

The Constellation shall have a similar command structure to other Starfleet vessels, including all standard departments, rank structure, and chain of command. As such, RPG Ranks on the Constellation will count toward Member Rank the same as on Standard Ships, and CO and XO positions on the Constellation will count fully towards any limits in place.

Additional swing positions may be added under the CO’s discretion, without being limited to demands of canon positions. Examples might include:
+ Chief Sanitation Officer
+ Chief of Jello Investigations

The current CO and crew of the USS Constellation are retained in their current positions aboard the ship. The CO may be removed at some later date in accordance with the rules of the site without penalty to the Constellation herself.

The current Charter is based on Edict Herr #7 and was written in 2006.

Changes that seem to be necessary are as follows:
+ Removal of the NCC Number - the charter allows the Connie to change class at the discretion of the CO, and could change from being an -H to an -I and beyond in the future. Unlike the other ship based alternate Role Playing areas, the requirement to be a set class doesn’t exist because those ships are either there for a purpose (Ogawa is a medical ship and must remain McCoy class) or time period (Bonaventure - Enterprise era; Chernov - Abrams movies era; Merrimack - TOS movies era and must remain the class created for those time periods). I would suggest that the first sentence of the charter could simply read “The USS Constellation is hereby recommissioned …”

  • Removal of the reference to it being in Fleet 2 - Fleet 2 hasn’t been around for a few years now, since 14th May 2014 at the latest, and there is always the possibility for it to be moved to another Fleet at some point in the future. I think that simply removing the mentions to Fleet 2 in the charter (in the first sentence of the edict and the sentence following the criteria for its decommissioning) would be an easy fix for this. I would have the end of the first sentence of the edict read ‘… as an alternative role playing area.’ I would have the first sentence following the decommissioning criteria read as follows ‘The Constellation will remain a permanent addition to Star-fleet.com, but …’

Anyway, those are my thoughts about changing the charter. Could I also draw my fellow players attention to the criteria required for the ship to remain commissioned in the club:
- We need to have a healthy role playing environment, with a crew mostly within posting limits,
- We need to be functioning as a comedy setting.

At the moment, I’m not sure we are fully meeting either of these criteria, especially the first. The master roster shows 6 of the 8 members of the roster as being AWOL. I also know that we have a 9th member of the crew (Jim Watkin) who hasn’t been added onto the roster since transferring over to Exodus, despite his past requests to be added. Jim though is also posting. However there is only so much the three of us can do to keep the ship healthy and operating as a comedy ship.

If you are reading this and are a crewmember of the Connie and are keen for the ship to continue, please post. Even if it is just as a response to this. Just because the CO, XO and GM are unable to post (and yes, real life can strike the command staff of a ship just as hard as it can strike the crew of a ship) doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t be posting, particularly those of us who are regularly in Discord. For the ship to be healthy, we all need to take responsibility and show the CO and XO and Fleet Command that we are able to carry on posting, even when the official sim draws to a halt.

Start a side sim, do character development, return to medical for a check up, start a no clothes Friday tradition on the Constellation, delve into your character’s past, have fun with NEs, go into the holodeck for a western/medieval/ancient history/bar room brawl, invite others into your quarters for a dinner. Also, if you see someone trying to do something, and the person they would normally do that with isn’t currently on board, take on a stand in character so that the posting can be continued and not left to wither away to nothing.

I am going to continue with the CNO et al to be silly on board the Constellation. I hope that if you are reading this, you’ll join in.

I am sorry for this post, but the state of the ship is of concern to me (you could even say, I don’t think its a laughing matter :-P) but I wanted to express my feelings on it to the rest of you.

I know I’m a JO here and all, but feel it is as much my responsibility as any other crew member to ensure the Connie meets its charter and hope I’m not overstepping boundaries here, but felt it needed saying.

I agree. I will comply with the charter by streaking through the corridor on a dare.

AJ
Your neighborhood streaker

Thanks for your post, Russell - Like you, I am only a JO here. Having said that I have already contacted both the CO & XO whilst wearing my aFComm hat am awaiting their response.

-Jim

I firstly would like apologize, I feel as though I have been not doing my job well enough after the transition to the new CO. I shall endeavour to bring myself up a notch in order to keep things going. The Connie is a wonderful ship with a wonderful crew, and I would like to thank you all for being such wonderful posters. I shall do my best to get things up and running again.

Liam

And my first act will to by mistake post as the wrong person and then give the wrong name

Amze Ezma

Yay, welccome back Liam! :)
nails the crazycog to the Connie. There, the Connie now has a figurehead! :D

Liam, are you able to add Jim’s character to the roster?
https://www.star-fleet.com/core/character/393/ is the link to his character, and I think the instructions on how to add a new character to the roster are in the Exodus Primer, or I’m sure someone who’s a CO/XO/member of PDept in the Discord channel would be able to tell you how, if the instructions aren’t in the primer. :)
