“What’s going on out there?” Johann wondered aloud. He couldn’t hear as well as Avik, but the sound of arguing was easy to identify and notable for being very out of place in any given Starfleet facility.

In what was a possible breach of etiquette, he stuck his head out the door slightly ahead of the rest of the group to prompt the door to open.

In the waiting room, two full commanders, one in a red command uniform, the other in a yellow operations uniform were standing in the middle of the room, both facing the receptionist desk. Standing behind the desk was Lt. Kelly. The Andorian Lt who was manning the desk when the group arrived wasn’t there.

“I don’t care Kelly, You are not authorized to be here, you are not authorized to man that desk.” The red uniformed commander stated rather sternly. Both commanders were well built human men. The Command level commander, was shorter, but had the built of a guy who spent more hours in the gym then out (OCC: Think Scott Steiner from WCW). The operations commander, was about 6‘8”

“Sir,” Kelly replied meekly, “She just went to the restroom, I offered to stay here until she returned.”

Was it a woman? Dvorak wondered, trying to remember the receptionist. Actually, yes, it was.

The two men turned to look towards the Admiral’s door when it opened. Admiral McGinnis looked at the Commanders, then at Lt. Kelly, the back at the Commanders. The Red shirt commander, after looking at Admiral, he turned back to Lt. Kelly.

“Good Luck Captain, Commander.” McGinnis said to the two of them, offer his hand, ignoring the situation outside his office. “I am interested to hear all about your exploration.”

“Thank you, Admiral.” Dvorak took the Admiral’s hand and shook it.

After shaking hands with Captain Dvorak and Avik he turned and walked back to his desk.

“You are to go back to my office and wait for me there. Go!” While his voice was calmer then the other commander, there was a hint of authority and impatience in his voice.

“But sir, I have to, I mean I have report back to my.....”

“Now!” The taller commander stated with more authority.

“Yes sir.” She said softly, looking down at the ground. Without looking at anyone, she walked past them and out the door.

That’s really odd, Dvorak thought.

After she left the two commanders turned to address the Dvorak and Avik.

“I apologize Captain, I wish you didn’t have to witness that. Commander Hartke, Chief of Staff to Admiral Mcginnis, This is Commander Bryan Guillhouf, head of Station security.” He said in introduction.

Avik kept her opinion hidden well underneath her firm mask. Her eyes studied the individual men and the Andorian’s interaction before they dispersed. She casually moved to the side to allow the Lieutenant past her then disappear into the office. The XO absorbed the image of each man introduced, noting the roles and filed it away for later.

She decided to take the lead by introducing the pair of them, “This is Captain Dvorak of the USS Europa and I’m Lieutenant Commander Avik, the XO.”

Avik hoped that Dvorak wouldn’t mind her taking the first step and continue the conversation or lead the way out.

Dvorak didn’t mind because he was still a bit distracted by what just happened. Everything about their entire visit here seemed slightly off in one way or another, including Lieutenant Kelly. In addition to the data chip provided by the Admiral, Johann made a note to check the personnel files of everyone he was meeting today. Something didn’t quite hang together about this entire Starbase and he couldn’t put his finger on it, other than that everyone they met seemed… weird…

“Commanders,” he acknowledged. “Do you have anything for us?”

Commander Hartke spoke first. “No sir, we are just waiting for our turn to see the Admiral.” To his right, Commander Guillhouf looked at Avik.

“Commander Avik, would you mind going into the womens bathroom and checking to make sure that Lt. Sh’irihlet is alright. It is the third door on the left....” He was cut off by the entrance of Lt. Sh’irihlet, the Andorian Lt that manned the reception desk when they first entered. She seemed a little off in color, but otherwise looked normal.

“Captain, Commander,” Hartke said after glancing at Guillhouf, “If you wouldn’t mind, could you please excuse us. I do apologize for the previous scene. Do you require an escort back to the transporter room?” He asked, it looked like they wanted to have a talk with Lt. Sh’irihlet about Lt. Kelly, just not in front of their guests, while at the same time, trying not to sound rude.

Avik nodded, though her expression tightened. She wasn’t sure what to think about the situation at this point. She couldn’t help but find it annoying how the restrooms hadn’t evolved enough to become unified for both genders. Casting the thought to the side, she turned in time to notice the Lt had returned to her station. The grey hue in color caught the Vulcan’s attention causing her to note and visually id any obvious sickness.

“I don’t think that’s necessary, do you Captain?” She asked to mostly be polite, but also to free them from the oddness going on.
