Dvorak didn’t mind because he was still a bit distracted by what just happened. Everything about their entire visit here seemed slightly off in one way or another, including Lieutenant Kelly. In addition to the data chip provided by the Admiral, Johann made a note to check the personnel files of everyone he was meeting today. Something didn’t quite hang together about this entire Starbase and he couldn’t put his finger on it, other than that everyone they met seemed… weird…

“Commanders,” he acknowledged. “Do you have anything for us?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Commander Hartke spoke first. “No sir, we are just waiting for our turn to see the Admiral.” To his right, Commander Guillhouf looked at Avik.

“Commander Avik, would you mind going into the womens bathroom and checking to make sure that Lt. Sh’irihlet is alright. It is the third door on the left....” He was cut off by the entrance of Lt. Sh’irihlet, the Andorian Lt that manned the reception desk when they first entered. She seemed a little off in color, but otherwise looked normal.

“Captain, Commander,” Hartke said after glancing at Guillhouf, “If you wouldn’t mind, could you please excuse us. I do apologize for the previous scene. Do you require an escort back to the transporter room?” He asked, it looked like they wanted to have a talk with Lt. Sh’irihlet about Lt. Kelly, just not in front of their guests, while at the same time, trying not to sound rude.

Avik nodded, though her expression tightened. She wasn’t sure what to think about the situation at this point. She couldn’t help but find it annoying how the restrooms hadn’t evolved enough to become unified for both genders. Casting the thought to the side, she turned in time to notice the Lt had returned to her station. The grey hue in color caught the Vulcan’s attention causing her to note and visually id any obvious sickness.

“I don’t think that’s necessary, do you Captain?” She asked to mostly be polite, but also to free them from the oddness going on.

Whatever this is, it isn’t our problem, he thought.

“No, we’d best get back to Europa and bring her into dock,” the Captain said, thankful for his First Officer’s deftness in handling that situation. “We’ll call if we need anything besides the docking clearance. As you were.”

He promptly walked towards the Transporter Room… and after a perfunctory conversation with the operator, had himself and Avik beamed back to the Europa.

As the two of them rematerialized on the Europa, the Captain let out an audible sigh.

“That was the single strangest briefing I’ve ever had,” he observed. “And I’ve had some very strange briefings.” Once he had a briefing from a mysterious man from Starfleet Intelligence over subspace who appeared to still smoke cigarettes, and that was still less strange than whatever it was that just happened on Starbase 51. Or it wasn’t that it was strange, but… off… somehow.

He began walking towards the doors and out to the corridor. “What did you make of all of that?” he asked Avik.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Avik kept tightly to the CO’s side, giving him enough space to maneuver. Her eyes stared ahead in thought while she digested what happened. She could see so much wrong and suspicious that it was difficult to ignore it. Carefully she formed her next words.

“There’s so much wrong in a short visit that it’s difficult to know where to start,” Avik admitted, her hands folded back behind her.

She paused then added, “The most troublesome issue is the representative’s death. If his security, as he seemed to imply, were following protocol then they would have some leads. However, there’s many things that aren’t adding up in various areas.”

Inhaling she continued, “I feel some of the answers are on the drive you obtained, but not enough to solve this mystery. For now, it’s logical we allow the crew shore leave before our next mission. We need them at their best for it. I believe you’ll agree?”
