As the data from the edge of their current search grid flowed, it began to change into smaller pieces that the computer was then analyzing. It was clear that it was detecting something. She pointed to one section and froze the screen. “There,” she said softly. “It’s a ping. The sensors have pinged something, but I’m just waiting for the computer to confirm what it was. It’s big enough to get past the filter Cass and I used to ignore normal space debris and aim for anything that would indicate a starship.”

Johann looked at the readings carefully. “That line there along the low subspace band looks like it’s from a Starfleet EPS…”

A few tense moments later, the screen displayed a set of numbers that looked unmistakably like a subspace signature. They had been specifically including that as an option. “Computer, identify the starship subspace signature displayed.”

“The subspace signature belongs to the USS Tian An Men, Registry code-“

“End Inquiry, we got it.” She looked wide -eyed at Johann. “We found them,” she whispered. “According to the positioning, the ping originates one and half lightyears from here.” They were practically on top of it, and she knew that that meant that there was no more than nominal power on the vessel, otherwise they would have detected the power usage ages ago. It also wasn’t the most positive piece of information, but it was a direction.

“Helm, plot a course to intercept, maximum warp. How much time until transporter range?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

“The Europa will be in transporter range of the destination in approximately 9.86 minutes.”

Vora tapped her commbadge. =/\=Zorell to Abrams.=/\=

There was a delay before there was a drowsy, if intrigued, reply from Cassidy. =/\=Abrams here. What’s up?=/\=

=/\=Cass… we got a ping. We’re ten minutes out.=/\=

Silence.

=/\=Cass?=/\= Vora looked momentarily worried.

=/\=We’re on our way. Abrams out,=/\= the security officer replied hurriedly.

We? Johann wondered.

She was relieved for her friend and also worried for her well being should they not find a positive outcome. Vora looked at Johann, unable to conceal her concern. She also knew that when Cassidy arrived on the bridge, she’d have to push that worry away and focus on the task at hand. “I know we’re all trying to be positive, but why does it feel like we’re kidding ourselves?”

~Vora and Cassidy

“Because we all know what would have to happen for a starship to go missing, and most of the time it’s really bad.” It was a simple statement, stated simply.

Marsh walked onto the bridge, he was not exactly perfectly coiffed he usually was in fact it appeared that he had ‘bed head’ but he was in uniform and mostly awake. “What do we got? ” He \questioned.

Marsh

Johann noted the “bed head” but managed to contain his amusement. Right, he thought. “We.”

“We think we’ve found the ship,” the Captain said. “Vora’s got it on the science station there.” He didn’t notice that he just referred to Vora by her first name; he was usually careful to always refer to her as Lieutenant Zorell or Miss Zorell while they were working.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Marsh looked at the screen… at a loss since he had nothing to do he walked near Vora… “Its a fragmented signal, did you purge the lower scanning bands… increase clarity?” He offered.

Marsh

“I cleaned it up as best I could, but we also got a confirmed ping from a subspace marker. When cross-referenced with the subspace signature database, it was a match for the USS Tian An Men. the signal originates just under one and half lightyears from our last position and we’re en route. Should be there in a few minutes.” She didn’t add that to be so close they were practically on top of the ship and hadn’t picked up any significant power signals that would have indicated a functioning starship.
