“With the strenuous activities so far, is it logical to practice combative skills?” Avik asked, her tone slightly hinted her thoughts over it.

She thought it was unnecessary. Their physical conditions would become pushed past their daily expectations, leaving them both exhausted and under their peak status. Any results had no comparison value when placed against their prior practices. They never really done more than two activities at a time during his visits. Her brown eyes studied him carefully and noted the signs of exhaustion already washed over his older features.

Lucius wasn’t the young man he once was. The years had taken their toll and unlike Vulcans, they weren’t kind to him.

Her ex-counselor paused in thought then let out an exhale. He seemed relieved she had spoken out against the next task, even though he was willing.

“All right, I see your point. How about we head to the mess hall and we can catch up some more.”

She nodded, then commanded the program to shut down. When the door appeared she led him down the corridor into the turbolift where they would head to the next floor.

Avik’s eyes followed the lights flash across the turbolift’s wall as it went to the next deck. She mentally counted the seconds between entering and exit when the doors hissed open. Promptly she followed her guest out into the corridor and toward the mess hall. A few officers darted in while others rushed out, getting back into their assignments.

Her attention darted the replicators. A few Officers ordered and retrieved their meals, disposing to the nearest table. IT made her think about the past. According to human history, officers served in the mess hall as cooks, serving staff, and dish washers.

Lucius casually walked into the line leading into the replicator then ordered his meal. He patiently waited while she ordered hers and followed closely behind him. They picked convenient place to enjoy their meal.

As usual, Avik had gotten something with a wide variety. At the center was a small bowl of cabbage stew topped with redspice for flavor. To the right was a small chef salad topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and other common earth vegetables. Left held a Targ ribs slow roasted over a fire then sliced into individual, handleable portions.

Casually she scattered the cabbage soup as she dipped her spoon in, stirring it lightly. She had just leaned down when Lucius interrupted her meal.

“It is comforting to see some things never change,” the counselor mused then bit into his ham sandwich.

She shook her head, then sipped some of her soup.

“Your answer to my earlier question about why you were visiting wasn’t satisfactory. I sense there’s more to it.”

“Sense or feel?” Lucius’ question caused Avik’s lips to frown briefly.

He placed his sandwich down to raise his hand defensively, “Apologizes. That was the wrong choice of words.”

“It was.”

Lucius sat there, studying her a moment. After it passed, he sighed then began to reach for his french fries.

“I thought your medical physician suggested you cut greasy food from your diet?” Avik aimed to change the subject as she continued to eat.

“Oh,” he said between bites, “She did. I figured you only live once and with the medical advancements, it’s only matter of time before cholesterol becomes obsolete.”

“That will likely be beyond your life time, Lucius.”

He shrugged. His hand reached for more fries to munch on with a cheeky smile.

“I could counter with the fact avoiding your emotions isn’t healthy either.”

“…”
