Johann exchanged a glance with Abrams, knowing exactly what she must be feeling but also knowing there was nothing to actually say yet.

“Send out a high energy signal and check how much we get back. We aren’t picking up much power from the Tian An Men, could be a power draining sector of space… that would explain a lot and we wouldn’t want to run in there at warp 9 to find out.”

“That’s a good idea,” the Captain said. “While we’re being prudent…”

“On it,” Zorell commented over her shoulder before initiating the signal in the direction of where the TAM’s subspace signature had pinged.

He walked over to the nameless ensign at Tactical. “Notify Starfleet Command that we’ve found the Tian An Men and are about to start our rescue operation.”

— Johann Dvorak, CO

“Yes, Sir,” the NE replied.

Marsh looked over and nodded in a positive fashion to Cassidy, and as his eyes scanned over they dipped slightly. Every moment they didn’t detect something more significant they were more and more likely to switch from a rescue operation to a recovery mission. He knew it, the Captain knew it and even Cassidy knew it…

There were only a couple minutes out from their destination, and Vora looked over the data. “We’ve got background radiation, and the normal mix of expected particles… looks like the region is stable and inherently safe. And, hmmmm”-she tapped a couple keys-“I’m getting a ping back on a structure. Metal. Looks like a standard Federation hull structure to me.” It wasn’t bad news, but it still wasn’t going to make anyone jump and down with joy. They had simply confirmed that there was a ship there where they had gotten a ping from the ship’s subspace ID.

Cassidy watched as the ship dropped out of warp a minute later and began to approach the ship’s coordinates. Moving from the back of the bridge closer to the viewscreen, she could see the shape of the Miranda-class ship take shape before them. It was clearly still intact, but there were very obvious signs of damage on the hull, including weapon scorching. It had clearly been attacked.

“I’m detecting residual energy signatures from a mix of weapons, but one IDs as Tholian. All major systems or nominal, including life support. I’m not detecting any life signs, but all escape pods seems to be missing,” Vora reported. At least if the crew had abandoned ship, there was hope. But what happened and where did the crew end up?

That doesn’t sound right, Johann thought. Why ditch if it’s still serviceable? And why didn’t the Tholians take the ship with them? He remembered their unusual habit of spinning energy webs to capture entire starships that they thought were violating their space.

Abrams spun, determination in her blue eyes. “We can go over in EVAs, get to the bridge and see if we can retrieve any log and sensor data,” she said hurriedly. “That would tell us at least the basics and give us a direction to go in next.”

~Vora & Cassidy

“Doesn’t make too much sense right now, the logs could be helpful.”

“Sure,” the Captain said somewhat absently as he kept thinking the scenario through.

=/\= Avik, this is the Captain. Report to the Bridge. =/\=

Better have her lead it, and stay to captain the ship if we can move it under its own power back to base. Though Sullivan will have to take a look. Assuming it’s even in that good of a condition… maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here…

“Sorry, systems are nominal, but they still abandoned ship? Does it look like it’s still capable of warp speed?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

“I see damage, but it doesn’t look like it has compromised the superstructure. If the warp drive is active, she should be able to travel.” Steven tried to get a computer link. “I’m sending the prefix code, see if I can get control of her remotely.”
