Her brow rose as his poor excuse was given. It was incredible, the level of arrogance and possession over the ship this Ensign had. Plus, he was talking to her as though she had no authority over him and it rankled. “You don’t think it’s weird, disconcerting, even frightening to a young adult, to have some stranger come up agitated at you, demanding answers you don’t actually have to give? Especially since this is your home and you have every right to be in the Lounge?”

Sienna straightened and stopped being the kind Counselor and started being a higher ranking officer who could have him taken off this ship. “We don’t have many civilians on this ship, but we do have them. We have visitors on this ship regularly. Often, an Engineering Ensign will not have been given the heads up about who they are and what their business is.” Her tone had become scathing. “Is the Captain to expect that you will question every person you meet in the Lounge you don’t know? Are you now in charge of determining who can and can’t be on this ship? Have you decided you prefer being on Security Ensign? I wonder why you only acted this way towards a young man but not towards any other person who is in civilian clothing in the off times. Surely you don’t know every crew member on this ship. You were looking for a chew toy… a bit of fun at the expense of another.”

Grant gazed at Nox with raised eyebrows, looking unimpressed, though his eyes held a hint of anger. “Who said I went up to him agitated? I didn’t, so if that’s what he said, he’s lying. And since you seem to have decided everything about this situation, there’s not much I can say, now is there?”

Ensign Grant, Engineering

Nox pressed her lips together and then after taking a break, spoke. “Of all the questions I just asked you Ensign Grant, the one thing you speak about is whether or not you were agitated? You went up to a stranger to you in our Lounge where anyone on this ship has a right to be and questioned them. How could that possibly be viewed by the stranger as anything other than demanding?”

At this point, Grant realized it was pointless to try explain anything further to ensure the story was accurate. Little by little it was being twisted and he was in trouble no matter what he did or said. He was irritated but at least he managed to school his features to be as neutral as possible.

“I want an answer to each of my questions Ensign.”

“Yes, ma’am,” grant said flatly.

“Is the Captain to expect that you will question every person you meet in the Lounge you don’t personally know?”

“No, ma’am.”

“Are you now in charge of determining who can and can’t be on this ship? Specifically who can and can’t use our Public Lounge?”

“No, ma’am.”

“Have you decided you prefer being on Security Ensign?”

“No, ma’am.”

“Who in this scenario is the adult? Who has the responsibility for his actions as an officer of the Federation?”

Nox, CNS

“Me, ma’am.”

Ensign Grant, Engineering

She nodded. “The boy in question is receiving discipline and being put to use so that he doesn’t feel idle. I don’t want you feeling as though he got off scott free for attacking you. It was wrong and he is very aware. He is remaining on the ship however. You are not to engage with him in any other manner than professional courtesy like you would with any guest or civilian living on the Europa. Is that understood?”

Nox, CNS

“Yes, Lieutenant,” Grant said. He was sufficiently chastized but there was still a part of him that felt deeply aggrieved. But at least he had learned to keep his mouth shut.

Ensign Grant, Engineering

She nodded and left him to his own devices. No doubt he would feel miffed and frustrated but it was better that she handle it than some people on the ship. All he got was a dressing down and it hadn’t lasted long. It was the first time she had had to deal with disciplinary action of this manner on this ship, in this assignment in this universe. Well, she was an experienced counselor. This may have been a new place, but it was the same her and she knew how to do her job.

She sighed as she left and decided she really needed some alone time.

Nox, CNS
