An awkward moment passed as they ate in silence. Avik knew Lucius had metaphorically gotten under her skin, but she didn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing it. She was picking off the Targ meat when Lucius broke the silence. His hands wiped the grease from his hands and crumbled the napkin up, setting it to the tray’s side.

“Sorry, that was uncalled for. There’s no excuse for bring that up.”

“Humans are emotional compared to Vulcan, I believe your race would use the phrase ‘I deserved it’,” she managed to keep the condensing tone from her voice.

Lucius nodded, slowly. He was studying her a moment then continued.

“So, how have you been getting along with the crew?”

“Some are more compatible with my personality than others.”

Lucius frowned then glanced around, noting if there was anyone listening in. It didn’t appear so as he decided to risk the question on his lips.

“Anyone specific that isn’t?”

Avik paused in her meal. Her eyes looked at Lucius, both indifference and annoyance flickered under her mask. Mentally she sighed at her friend’s attempts to pry information from her. She casually set the rest of her food to the side.

“You realize you’re no longer the counselor over my ship, or have you forgotten?” She politely asked.

Lucius thoughtfully placed his forefinger on his lips in a thoughtful expression.

“I would like to gloss over that fact,” he began.

“While you might not be my patient, I still worry for you. You’ve never been able to handle emotions well and from one of your reports…”

There was a trail off as Lucius let the words sink in, his eyes studied her. Avik sighed then replied.

“You weren’t supposed to have access to those reports. How did you get access to them?”

“I have a friends in high places…” Lucius answered casually.

Avik sighed, her eyes narrowed on him. She analyzed the best way to tell him to mind his own business, but she knew that wouldn’t stop him. He worried too much and if he hadn’t pried, he wouldn’t have known this much about her.

He seemed to sense her thoughts.

“You should have a sit down and explain your reaction to her, not avoid her. You will need to be able to work with her eventually.”

Avik’s lips tightened briefly, “I can and have proven I can work with her.”

“Are you sure? What happens if those memories resurface?”

“I will address them when it happens.”

“Avik…”

“Lucius, do not push this. I am a Vulcan so emotional control is something we’re brought up and raised to do. I’m not some child who is still learning. Now if you will excuse me, I have paperwork to do.”

With that, Avik stood then disposed of her mostly eaten tray. She could feel Lucius’ eyes linger on her retreating back, but gave no acknowledgement of it. When she out of earshot, he leaned back into his chair. He inhaled then spoke mostly to himself.

“I guess you’re too stubborn for your own good.”
