Jerrin had just folded his arms across his chest, but beyond the sullenness there was a tiny thread of fear. He was good at not showing it on his face though, even if he knew his mom and the counsellor likely would figure it all out. They always did. Feet crossed at the ankles, one foot moved back and forth.

Her story about Commander Range had not had the effect on Jerrin she would have preferred, but Siennadye was hardly one to be deterred in her efforts so easily. She could feel his fear as much as she did the very characteristic sullenness that came from all teenagers. She wondered how she would approach this situation. Before meeting the boy, she had not really thought of a specific plan. There were vaguely outlined options, but she didn’t want to make any choices until she had met him.

For her part, Vora just relaxed into the chair, glanced at Jerrin and then at Nox. “So, here we are. And you should know that we’ve also met with the captain, and Jerrin, by his own agreement, is going to be doing some work around the ship with different departments.”

She was glad to see Vora relaxing. For the most part, she was just wanted Vora here to assist if necessary. “I had heard something to that effect might be possible. I think it is an excellent idea.”

She turned her dark Betazoid gaze to Jerrin. She seemed relaxed and exuded a nonchalance. “I wonder, Jerrin, what you think I called you here for? I am curious to know what you think of me, counselors, Betazoid counselors, this office?

Nox, CNS

Jerrin half sighed, though it only came out as a soft exhale. “I’m here because I was stupid and got angry and hit someone, I don’t know you so don’t have an optinon, I don’t generally like counsellors though there has not been that many on this ship to actually see, I don’t care that you are Betazoid, or at least I don’t think it matters, and I really don’t have much to think about this office other than this chair is a bit on the small side for my liking and my mom must find sitting a lot of places weird at times since she’s actually technically taller than me,” he said, answering each question perfectly in the order she stated them.

She watched the young man with interest as he finally let out a little of whatever had been on his mind since he came in. Sienna listened as he spoke, answering all of the questions in the exact order she had asked them. It was likely he had much the same type of memory as his mother had. In some cases, that could be good especially for growth away from the dangers of Tenra. In some cases, like assault and torture, it was bad.

Her head tilted and she smiled a little. “Interesting opinions. I shall definitely make a note to look into more comfortable sitting arrangements in the near future. I appreciate the feedback.” She sipped her drink and then returned her attention to him. “I wonder, if you were not doing this right now… what would you be doing?”

Nox, CNS

Jerrin half-shrugged. “School work, most likely.” He glanced at his mother who was quietly enjoying her drink and so far seemed quite happy not to interfere. “Or one of my tutoring sessions.”

She seemed to consider this with the same thoughtful process she had displayed before. Sienna listened to him and how he presented his answers as well as his posture and physical presence. Letting out a little hmm of concentration, she approached the question again from a different angle. “A good use of time, especially if you want to get ahead. What about for fun though? Relaxation? Stress relief?”

Nox, CNS

Jerrin shrugged and didn’t add anything.

At first Vora let him say nothing, but then she smiled slightly. “We do have fun exploring the replicator together some nights. Jerrin is pretty good at coming up with unusual dinner combinations. Sometimes we like them. Sometimes not.”

She did not let Jerrin’s indifference deter her. He was being very typical of the teenager of most species. He was not giving anything away if he could help it. He was frustrated and felt wronged, singled out and examined. Most anyone would react instinctively to clam up and shy away from expressing anything that could gain them more unwanted attention. At least he wasn’t doing destructive things to cry for attention from his mother. That was a whole other ‘bag of cats’ as her human friends had said in school. Refocusing on Vora for a moment, she grinned.

“You know, I am in love with cooking. I don’t do it often with replicators so easily at hand, but it is something I find very enjoyable. That experimentation sounds like a lot of fun.”Little did she know that the other Siennadye, who had been friends with Vora, had cooked for her and Johann. She was simply thinking of the time honored and unmistakable fact that the kitchen was a magical place where one tended to bear one’s soul even if inadvertently. She turned to Jerrin. “I wonder Jerrin, if you might be interested in learning to cook? Maybe we could serve your mother the finished food for feedback. It would be something to do that wasn’t school work and you might find it fun.”

Nox, CNS

Jerrin shifted his gaze slightly and did seem to be considering it. “Sure, why not?” he said quietly. It was far from enthusiastic but it also wasn’t grudging.

“Well, that’s good, because I think we’ve established that I can’t * cook, or rather, I really shouldn’t* cook,” Vora said with a good humoured grin.

The teen snorted and actually smirked slightly. “No more burnt kaswie stew?”

Vora placed her hand on her heart. “I promise on all things motherly that I will not serve you burnt stew again.”

“Maybe you extend that to include everyone else?” he quipped back.

“Hey!” she said with slightly indignant amusement. “Be nice. Besides, my friends will forgive me many things, even burnt food.”
