Madison replied to the XO =^=Not yet Commander. I’m on my way up there to figure out what’s going on.=^= She said =^=Once I have some information I’ll let you know.=^= Madison said as she headed to the impulse engine.

The doors opened and the Captain resumed his seat on the Bridge.

“Sorry about that,” he said to Avik without choosing to elaborate any further on what happened. “While I was out, I was just thinking that this insistence the Admiral had on not telling the crew what we know was very silly. I think we should brief the department heads on what we know, though he might consider it an overly-broad interpretation of his orders.”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Avik paused while working at the machine. Her head turned over her shoulder and she observed the CO walking in, silently agreeing with him. An uninformed crew would hinder the mission especially since they weren’t fully sure on some details. She finished typing in her search inquiries before she began to fill the CO on her recent recollection.

“Agreed Captain,” She stated then moved on.

“I recalled a race, the Elimites, that might have a connection to the mythos. I’m working on pulling up more information, but it might take a bit of time.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

The computer beeped on a brief snyopisis appeared. ‘ ancient earth culture of Elam, or Elamites. They were an ancient pre-iranian circa 2700 B.C.E until 530 B.C.E. They were a Matriarchal, polytheistic society whose primary goddess was Pinikir, the great-goddess or divine mother. Ancient statues of the goddess sometimes showed her holding a pair of snakes. Further information requested?’

When the computer chimed in, Avik’s head twisted to the screen. She fought a smirk that edged into her lips as she answered, “Yes.”

Huh, Johann thought. Who knew she could let anything like that slip?

She idly wondered if the attackers had drawn their roots or belief system from the Elamites. A thought occurred to her for a moment as she then narrowed the subjects for the computer’s search, knowing the information could provide assistance in their mission. At least give security an insight on the thought process of any related hostiles.

“Computer, specifically pull up any information on the culture’s interaction toward others, the goddess, and symbolism of snakes.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

The Captain paid rapt attention to whatever the results were. He’d want to be sure this was covered during the briefing.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

=^=Information is limited on topic.” the computer replied. “Historical records indicate that during the Neo-Elamite period (c. 1100 – 540 BCE), the common religion among the Elamite people was the worship of various venomous snakes common to the area now know as Iran, and a goddess called Pinikir, whose clay image they wear about their necks. The priests and other religious officials enjoy vast influence among great and common people, and they go naked even when they follow their armies into battle.  The Emamites consistently challenged their neighbor to the west, the Neo-Assyrain empire until the Elams were defeated by Ashurbanipal.=^=

Avik’s eyes shifted. She noticed the Captain’s attention directed at her then turned back to the screen. The results were less than satisfactory in her eyes, but still useful. She casually removed herself from the console and turned to face her CO.

“I believe we shouldn’t delay the briefing any longer,” she straightened her uniform when she finished.

Deep inside, she logically had hoped he would’ve had the common sense to summon the department heads while she was collecting data. It would’ve saved them time while she wrapped and get started sooner. She resisted asking him if he wanted her to make the request for all Department Heads to head to the ready room. If he wanted her to, he would’ve made the orders to after all.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“Right,” he said simply, totally oblivious to her impatience.

=/\= Attention senior staff; there will be a mission briefing at… =/\= he checked the current time before continuing =/\= 1500 hours in the Observation Lounge. Repeat, there will be a mission briefing at 1500 hours in the Observation Lounge. That is all. =/\=

That gave Avik about 40 minutes to do whatever data collection was necessary.

– Johann Dvorak, CO
