Less than twenty four hours after their last encounter, Johann found himself standing outside Siennadye’s quarters. Despite having the responsibility for running the ship for almost half the day as the Executive Officer of the Korolev, he still managed to come up with a the rough outline of something that may be able to pass as a plan for his date with this new Betazoid lady that had helpfully invaded the privacy of his misery earlier this week.

Maybe 2386 is looking up after all, he thought as he pressed the chime outside Siennadye’s quarters. He had chosen to wear a dark blue short sleeve shirt, with a pair of khaki shorts and some sandals. It was the only combination of things in his wardrobe that were remotely appropriate for the beach and presentable enough to display on a date. He just hoped it was adequate; he didn’t want to waste a bunch of time replicating something else to wear, considering he needed most of it for preparing the Holodeck.

Sienna had taken her time getting ready. After her day of being on duty, she came back to her quarters to prepare. She cleaned and groomed and put a minimal amount of waterproof makeup on. She curled her hair a little and left it down, something rarely did when outside her quarters. The big question was what to wear, a bikini obviously, but what over it. It would be a bit gouche to just wear a bikini and it wasn’t something she wanted to wear while walking in the hallways to get to the holodeck. Years in Star Fleet had taught her a bit of modesty. And since she didn’t have the time consuming task of making the holodeck date world, she spent her time selecting a dress she liked and having it replicated.

She had picked a halter dress with almost no back at all in a nice dark blue color blue. It complimented her skin tone and dark hair. The skirt of the dress was long, long enough to brush the floor easily. A slit on the left side went from to to hip to help her move even though the skirt was full enough as it was. She smiled at the chime and slipped on the gold sandals she had picked. . Johann was right on time. Her heart skipped a beat as she opened the door and took in his outfit.

Her smile widened. “Right on time I see. You look great.”

I look great?” he asked. “I think your fashion choices are considerably more elegant than mine.” He was impressed by the tastefulness of the dress, though a part of him definitely chose a beach scenario for the express purpose of finding out what she looked like in a bikini. There’s still time… he thought as his implants took in her appearance, lingering in a few places.

She grinned and even giggled a little, preening at the compliment given. She noticed his examination and felt her blood run hot in response. To distract herself, she answered his unspoken question. “If I am going to wear anything, it might as well suit me. Elegant seems to be my default.”

“Ahh. I wouldn’t know, I’ve only seen you in uniform. In visible light, anyway.” It seemed very plausible that what she was wearing that night she had found him lost in the hall was elegant, but with his implants stuck on the infrared spectrum, she had just looked like a blob of heat.

“Anyway, if you’ll permit me to escort you, my lady…” he said, offering his right arm rather gallantly.

Her smile widened as she felt her heart flutter. Sienna took his arm and glided beside him. “I must confess I am very curious to see what you have programmed for our date. There are millions of beaches in the universe to choose from. If we take out all the possibilities that are too uninhabitable or the wrong weather for swimming, it still leaves a great many to choose from.”

“It does raise the stakes, doesn’t it?” he asked as he escorted them down the corridor towards the turbolift. “I mean, one of the consequences of this wonderful Holodeck technology is that any bum can take a woman to the beach for a date, and it can be one of the best beaches in the known galaxy. But, if I choose whatever program is considered to be one of the best beach simulations in the system, I run the risk that a lesser suitor has already taken you on a date there.” Johann was practically glowing with confidence that this would not be a problem, very self-assured in his own superiority at asking women on dates to beaches.

Her heart fluttered again. He seemed very confident and she liked that in him. He was confident in command, but sometimes people who were confident in one thing were very much not in another. He had asked her on the date and was following through. She loved surprises and he was earning more points by the minute.

As they reached the end of the corridor, they boarded the turbolift as the only occupants. “Holodeck 1” he said, and the lift obliged with an obedient set of beeps. It began moving…

She turned to unabashedly look at her date. He was handsome with his shaved head and facial hair. He looked distinguished. The eyes were mostly innocuous except when they were focusing on something in particular or he had changed a setting. She knew he had them of course, but they looked relatively normal to her. Granted, she was used to deep and dark soulful eyes that were common among her people. He looked relaxed, which was something she didn’t often see in someone in command. She wasn’t arrogant enough to claim it was her presence, but she was glad that he was able to seem relaxed in her company.

Before she could open her mouth to speak, the turbolift stopped, allowing an engineering ensign to get on. He was quick to observe and look away, pretending he didn’t really notice the other occupants. “Bridge.” He said simply as the doors shut and the lift continued on its way.
