Having settled in to his quarters… (A fairly innocuous achievement, seeing as he’d only brought a small shoulder bag with him.) Va’rek made his way to Sickbay to get cleared for duty. He’d read up on some of his crewmates thus far, but there really wasn’t much on file for Doctor Drake. It made him wonder, a little… However, he had bigger things on his mind at the moment.

The Sickbay doors slid open, and Va’rek stepped inside. He’d find a place to wait until he was acknowledged.

-Va’rek, Eng

The Sickbay was located on deck 4. It was actually quite empty, with the exception of a lone human medical technician. He was working on running a diagnostic on biobed 4 (of 5).

He looked up when the officer entered. “Can I help you, Sir?” He asked.

Random crewman

Dark eyes turned to the Tech. “Do you have authority to clear me for duty?” His tone was not entirely unpleasant, but it was a bit curt for a Vulcan.

-Va’rek, Eng

The poor technition said, “No, Sir. I’m just here to fix this biobed. I know!”

He tapped his comm badge.
=/\= Sickbay to Dr. Drake.=/\=
=/\=Go ahead. =/\= came the response.

=/\= I have a security officer here that wants you to check him out to be cleared for duty.=/\= the tech said.

=/\=hmmm I don’t have anyone that’s out injured or sick.=/\= Zeke said.

Va’rek pinched the bridge of his nose gently and took a deep breath. Then he looked at the poor, unfortunate Tech again. “Perhaps, it is best if I return at a later time. Might I make an appointment with Doctor Zeke?”

He didn’t wish to interrupt the current conversation between the Tech and the good Doctor… Perhaps he could go to where the Doctor was. Logically, a later time would have to suffice, after all… Humans hang a great deal of value on cultural cues, perhaps I am missing something… he thought.

-Va’rek, Eng

=/\=Nonsense, I’ll be there in a few minutes. It’s better to take care of this now, while it’s slow.=/\= came the reply from the tech’s comm badge.

CMO

“Very well.” Va’rek nodded at the Tech. “You were quite helpful, sir. You have my gratitude.” He needed to order his thoughts, and began a series of calming breathing exercises. These would allow him to strengthen his control over certain emotions he’d set up during a much longer meditative state. A mere stop gap measure to make sure he could get through the day, as it were.

-Va’rek, Eng

It was in short order that Zeke, a middle aged human, arrived in the Sickbay. “Sorry about that,” he apologized. “I keep medical on stand by at all times. I just don’t see the reason to keep it manned if nobody’s actually sick.”
