It was in short order that Zeke, a middle aged human, arrived in the Sickbay. “Sorry about that,” he apologized. “I keep medical on stand by at all times. I just don’t see the reason to keep it manned if nobody’s actually sick.”

CMO

“No apology is necessary, Sir. No offense was given.” Va’rek raised his right hand in greeting, in the traditional fashion. “I must offer my own apology if I have taken you away from some other duty. I merely wish to be cleared for duty.” The Doctor seemed like a pragmatic man. Va’rek wondered if the man were familiar with Vulcan physiology. Most humans didn’t realize there were quite large differences between Humans and Vulcans. He breathed again, stilling his mind. Curiosity was a distraction at times, and must be controlled…

Zeke eventually got back to the Sickbay. “Ah. You must be the new security officer checking in,” he noted. Then he whipped out his trusty medical tricorder. “This’ll only take a few minutes. Anything medical-wise that I should know about before we start?”

CMO

The Vulcan raised a hand in salute, greeting Dr. Zeke. “I am an engineer.” Var’ek corrected, “Greetings, Doctor. I appreciate your time.” Upon being asked for a medical history, he handed Zeke the small PaDD he had brought. “I was given a clean bill of health when last I was checked, however, here is my medical record.”

-Va’rek, Eng

“Yes,” Zeke agreed. “Have a seat one of the working biobeds. It’s just a matter of comparing the current readings to your baseline profile, and checking for any anomalies.”

CMO

“Have you had many Vulcan patients in your care, Doctor?” Va’rek asked as he took a seat on the indicated Biobed. He eyed the tricorder suspiciously as he continued. “I have found that despite an inordinate amount of training, there are many Starfleet Physicians who seem unaware that Vulcan physiology differs quite substantially from Human physiology.”

Va’rek paused to assess the Doctor’s progress. “Perhaps it is because we have similar appearances.” He raised one eyebrow, posing the possibly rhetorical question to himself as much as to the CMO.

-Va’rek, Eng

“And yet, Vulcans and humans have many similar physical qualities, too,” Zeke said. “At least, similar enough that they can mostly eat the same foods. And procreate hybrid offspring.”
