After many weeks at high warp, the Europa approached the first system that Admiral McGinnis indicated in his briefing. It had been a relatively quiet journey, all things considered. The Europa didn’t encounter anyone, or anything during their trip. However, the missing animals were never found and no further mechanical issues appeared either.

Initial scans of the system at long range were unable to determine the make up of the system. Something, or someone was interfering with their scans.

Avik was on duty when they arrived at the new star system. She had signaled for the helmsman to slow and approach with caution. As an additional precaution, she put all crew on standby. She trusted very little to go smoothly since the mysterious events stopped.

“I’m not getting anything from the scanners.” Marsh said after a moment. “It is long range but we should be getting something by now.” He pressed a few buttons. Was there no returns from the scan or was it coming back without details. That could reveal the nature of the problem. “I’ll try troubleshoooting.” Which also including increasing scanning power and changing the frequencies.

When the officer’s scan failed, she tightened her eyes. She stepped to the man and glanced over his shoulder, eyeing the screen before she pulled back. She pressed her fingers to her comm badge.

=^= Captain, we have arrived at the first system. However, we are having issues scanning at long range and it appears something is interfering with our scanners. I have put all departments on standby as a precaution.=^=

She expected at least one department head to arrive shortly, mainly to inquire about the situation.

There was nothing wrong with the sensors, but as they got closer the sensors picked up a system wide, low level radiation that, while harmless to living tissue, had the effect of scattering the sensors, limiting their range. The sensors were able to pick up 10 planets in the system, including one M-class planet. however, further details would be impossible until they got closer.

Avik nodded at Marsh’s words. She noticed him for the first time, but that wasn’t unusual. He seemed to float on the ship making him difficult to predict his exact location. Honestly, she figured he would’ve been in his office or another location of the ship.

She pressed the wandering thoughts to the back of her head while she waited for the captain.

“Keep me updated on what you find,” she requested, lifting up from the officer’s shoulder and glanced at the door. The very one she expected the CO to be walking through any moment.

“It’s radiation.” Marsh said after a moment. “It will resolve itself as we get closer. There is one class M… if we are looking.”

Matty came onto the bridge for a moment “Captain, I’m going to go back to main engineering and make sure that everything is working right.”

Cassidy slipped onto the bridge and took her station, looking over the sensor readings to get an idea of the situation. The news of Archie’s death was still sitting hard with her, even after the weeks had passed. It was that feeling like you knew you should have done more but didn’t know what exactly you could have done to have changed. “Any idea if the scattering field is naturally created or artificial?” she asked.

“Commander, I’d recommend we go to yellow alert and keep the shields raised until we have our bearings. There’s far too much unknown about this place and the situation and given everything that happened back at Starbase, I’d advise extra caution,” Abrams said.
