Marsh nodded “Zorell is right, the radiation is in the higher and lower EM bands.”

“Let’s start broadcasting anyway,” the Captain ordered. “We might get lucky and get some sort of signal back.”

A few minutes later, the Fermi and the Brahe joined them and assumed a defensive formation. There were about twenty minutes out from the planet and Cass was watching the data they did have. while they figured out their plan. “Assuming we can’t get clear scans, which the radiation will make difficult under the best of circumstances, we’re going to have to narrow down where they would have landed. Knowing the variables, they would have sought additional shelter, since the pods aren’t going to be so great after landing and the few shuttles they have aren’t going to be enough for everyone.”

Abrams, COS

“Any nice caves?” Johann asked. “I’d assume they’d go for the first set they could have found… which would be whichever they could expect to land on as soon as they came close enough to descend. If we knew the time they arrived here that would narrow the area down considerably.”

— Johann Dvorak, CO

Marsh looked at the data from his scanners. “They are lucky to have found a class M planet, but it’s really class M in name only. It’s pretty harsh, higher than normal radiation exposure, marginal water supply and thus marginal food supply and that could lead to very hostile native life forms fighting for minimal resources.”

“The radiation is also making scanning difficult, I see only a few major bodies of water and even fewer are drinkable. I don’t see any caves in proximity to a body of water… I think there is a cluster of pods around a lake. Northern Hemisphere. 34.33 by 145.71.”

“Makes sense they’d make camp near the biggest necessary resource,” Cassidy commented.

There was still no sign of the raiders and while they could technically try and hide somewhere nearby in wait, it was becoming increasingly unlikely they that was the case.

A few minutes later, they entered the system and approached the planet. There were still no comm signals leaving the planet, most likely due to the interference caused by radiation.

Abrams, COS

“We’re not going to be able to get a message down so it’s likely we’ll have to go down there ourselves,” Abrams commented. “I’m also not confident about using the transporters. That radiation likely will interfere with transporter signals as well.”

Shuttle workers for Me” Marsh said as he looked up from his sensors. “Might not be the best pilot on the ship, but I can handle this milk run.” Marsh was being modest. He was one of the better helmsmen not in that department. “Not to mention Cassidy and I did all the leg work.” He said hopefully.
