Gathering gear, Abrams quickly began to prep the shuttle for a rescue mission. Obviously it was initially a recon mission, but she knew there were people down there and couldn’t only hope they were still alive. For the first time in a very long time, she found herself murmuring prayers under her breath, alternating between Catholic ones her mother uttered and the Hebrew ones her father had taught her.

Marsh looked at her packing, picking up some items to help. “We aren’t going to be down there very long. Medical is coming, they would be bringing everything we can or the survivors could need.”

Pre-flight checks would take a few minutes and despite the urgency, she didn’t want them to rush through those. With all the radiation they needed their shuttle to be in optimal condition. “We should consider a secondary communication method with the ship, just in case. In all likelihood, the radiation will stop us from talking to the ship, just like it’s preventing us from sending signals down.” The question became, what way might actually cut through?

Kayla arrived was about ten minutes later. She was lugging two metal cargo suitcases with her that had the medical department’s logo on them.

“Sorry that took so long, Ma’am,” she apologized. “I had to grab some supplies.”

“No worries, glad to have you,” Cassidy said as she shifted some of the gear she was stowing. “And we definitely needed supplies. We don’t know how bad the crew will be, or even what state we’ll find them. The radiation might not be too bad in small doses in the short term, but they’ve been potentially down there more than a week. We can expect some severe cases of radiation poisoning.” She was going to do her best to act like this was just any ordinary rescue mission under possibly dire circumstances. The less she even allowed herself to think of the personal consequences, the better off they all would be. She might have been able to get away with it a bit when it had been just her and Steven on the Tian An Men, but now there were other people around and she needed to be professional.

Zeke entered the shuttlebay. He was carrying one more suitcase with him. “Okay, I’m all set,” he announced. “Dr. Lazarus. You’ll be in charge of the Sickbay while I’m gone.”

“No problem, Sir,” she said as she stood away from the shutttlecraft.

Marsh took his head out of the door and slapped the side of the shuttle repeatedly, “Come on, come on… the meter is running.”

Zeke went aboard the shuttle. He took a seat behind the pilots. “The Sickbay will be prepped and ready to receive traumatic radiation poison patients,” he said. “I also brought some extra rad treatment meds. And I got a refill on my 20 ounce cup of coffee! All set.”

CMO

Marsh bounced to his seat and started the ship in motion before he even got settled. He spun the shuttle and was heading out the bay. Marsh was almost as good of a pilot as a helmsman although he probably was a little more reckless then he should have been. He was moving the shuttle as full power until he hit the atmosphere, where he settled the shuttle into full re-entry speed only slowing down when he reached the designated landing zone.
