“Oh, we should definitely go over,” the Captain said. “We should signal the Klingons about it as a courtesy, but with the state it’s in and no crew we can make a legitimate salvage claim.”

Marsh made a face, who would want to salvage a 120 year old Klingon ship…

Abrams slipped onto the bridge quietly took over the tactical station, gathering info quickly from the readouts as well as what had happened so far from the ensign who had been at the station. Her brow furrowed at the curious set of events and details surround the Klingon ship itself. She was prepared to go over if necessary, but Cassidy couldn’t say she was thrilled with the idea of a ship acting on its own accord. “Kessik…” she said aloud before realizing she had spoken to the bridge. “Kessik Three and Four are Federation members. They’re Federation colonies. Why would an old Klingon ship have come from Kessik? Unless…” She held up a finger to indicate she was working on something and hunted for information about the Kessik system. “Maybe it wasn’t always? I’m checking to see what the deal is there, but the other question is always what diverted it from its flight path.”

Abrams, COS

“Those are good questions,” the Captain said, swiveling to face Abrams. “Let us know what you find out.” He then kept turning in his chair to face Avik.

“How is your Klingonese?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Mattie looked at Johann “Why would they send out a ship without a crew? I wonder if something happened aboard the ship that killed the crew or maybe they have it set from some other nefarious scheme if it is a ship from the past.” SHe said “Have we looked for chroniton particles that might indicate time travel?” She asked as she worked on repairing the console she was at.

CE

“120 years, they all could have died.” the Klingon life span wasn’t quite as long as the human. Starting at a young adult the minimum age over there would be over 140, over the normal life span of a Klingon.

Avik listened to the conversation between the crew and the CO. She followed Dvorak’s line of thinking, the history lesson, and Abram’s questions. Everyone had good points that were worth considering in their search for answers. In a brief moment, Avik skimmed over the odds of this encounter being in neutral territory. It fell right into what many would say ‘lucky circumstance’. Most fortunate for them.

When she caught the question directed at her, her eyes turned to Dvorak, and she paused for a moment.

“I haven’t practiced it in a long time. Languages weren’t my favorite subject to explore or learn. Even when I needed to communicate with patients.”

In blunt terms, she questioned how well her lack of skill might serve them on the away team.

“I always hated them too,” Johann said. We FINALLY have something in common! he thought. This was a moment that he began to cherish slightly, until he realized there was really no practical way to make further progress based upon it.

When the CE spoke up, Avik turned to her. “Without the correct data, there are many theories and nothing supporting them. But, your suggestion does help eliminate one theory and it might be worth an attempt.”

She turned back to the CO to his opinion on the matter. “What do you think, Captain?”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“I think Mr. Marsh should scan for chroniton particles,” he said. “But regardless we should probably plan to board this ship and salvage it. I don’t think we can leave it floating here firing automated warning shots at anyone it happens to pass by.”

— Johann Dvorak, CO

A scan for chroniton particles would be negative.

“Negative on temporal particles of any sort.” Marsh offered.

Marsh

“Great, we don’t have to worry about any temporal crap.” The Captain seemed to deliver that particular pronouncement with more exhaustion than exuberance, as if the thought of time travel being involved was enough to ruin his whole week.

It seemed inevitable that there would be a boarding party. The ship seemed to be a ghost ship and she wondered sadly, what might have happened to the poor crew. Sienna had always had a flair for languages, though she wasn’t as good as some. She wasn’t fluent in Klingon, but she was fairly close, at least reading it. “I can read Klingon better than I can speak it.”

Nox, CNS

“I know all the curse words…” Marsh offered, he knew a few more but he wouldn’t be able to have a very long conversations.

marsh

“That’s one theory down.” Avik spoke as she turned to the Counselor.

“That’s a step closer than I can do.”

She looked at Marsh when he commented about Klingon curse words. Her right eyebrow lifted, and she wondered in what situation allowed that to be possible. She dismissed her thoughts when she addressed him.

“I will make a note of that, Lt. Marsh. I’ll likely be inquiring about that in the future.” Her tone wasn’t intended to be sarcastic or an insult, but genuine. Knowing such things helped to provoke emotions or know when she was being insulted.

She turned to the CO.

“For the away team, I request to bring along Abrams, any security officers she sees fit, Nox, and Sullivan. Any objections?” She doubted there would be, but the CO might be curious. It was hard to tell with him some times.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“I’m tempted to flip you for it, but… no. That sounds like a plan.” He almost questioned why nobody from science, except there would be plenty of opportunity to send someone else over if that was a problem. Plus, he liked the idea of keeping Marsh on sensors, despite not knowing the Marsh was even more happy than usual to be kept on sensors in this particular case.

“Just let us know if you need any more people to keep her going until… wherever it is we drop her off. It’s a good sized Away Team, but small for a prize crew.”

I should figure out where we’re going with this thing, he thought. We’re pretty far away from our usual AO. I’d need to look this stuff up on a map.

There was a Starfleet patrol outpost 15 lightyears away.
