Lia mimicked Abrams’ actions on her own sidearm, although she’d already checked once before heading to the transporter room. It felt better to be doing something as she attended to the quick briefing. She nodded as she digested the information and then listened in quietly to the conversation between the two superior officers.

Adrie, Sec

Avik nodded her head toward the Ensign. A subtle, effortless acknowledgment of the woman’s presence as they continued to wait. She listened to Abrams debrief the younger officer over their mission. When Abrams shifted to Avik, the Vulcan turned her eyes and gave the CoS her full attention.

The XO couldn’t help but wonder why they should beam in at a different point than the bridge. The scans showed no one onboard and indicated the computer systems were to blame. Avik suspected that Abrams suspected that something tricked the scanners. A notion that she knew could’ve been possible.

“I trust your judgement, but I am curious about why you recommend that. The bridge scans showed no one onboard and evidence leans to the computer systems running the ship.” Avik also lacked knowledge over the Klingon ship. Was she missing information that could’ve explained the recommendation?

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“Caution, mostly. If we beam into the bridge directly we have less response time if something isoff. But beaming into an adjacent corridor allows us to enter through a door and take precautions we can’t otherwise. I like to know what we’re beaming into and in this case, with an old ship running on the computer alone, I don’t trust that we’re getting the whole picture. I’d rather that be proven wrong than find out we should have taken more precautions,”Cassidy said openly. She wasn’t upset the commander was looking for clarification and was happy enough to explain herself. But from this point out, on that ship, she hoped the XO would err on the side of trusting her and her instincts. They’d kept her going a long time so far and she happily relied on them.

Abrams, COS

Lia listened with interest as the COS and the XO discussed their strategy, although she tried to make sure that it didn’t look too obvious that her curiosity was overcoming her. She busied herself with checking the various equipment that she had with her, her ears completely tuned to the discussion at hand.

Adrie, Sec

“I agree. I find incomplete data often leads to complications. I’m being hopeful that this mission goes through without an issue, but if things…”

Avik paused to collect her thoughts then used a earth phrase she heard once. “Go to the dogs, then I trust your decisions to pull us through it.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

He stepped into the transporter room quickly, obviously having rushed to get there. James was about 5‘10” and a bit stocky, with wavy almost blonde hair and blue eyes. His uniform was Engineer’s gold and he carried a kit of tools in a case he’d slung over one shoulder. “Sorry I’m late, Commander… I’ve only just come aboard and had to stop by the quartermaster’s to grab a phaser.” Franklin addressed Avik in a civil tone, though it didn’t have the jump to attitude most junior officers used. Also, he had a strong southern accent.

-Franklin, engineer

Avik’s head turned to witness an Engineer walk into the room. Hearing his apology, the XO determined that the CE had sent him instead of coming. A conflicting emotion poured through her, but she reined it in. It wouldn’t suit the mission to be upset over a minor thing.

“I think the last person we’re waiting on is the Counselor. Unless you have some experience with the written version of Klingon.” Her eyes turned to the Junior Officer.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

=^=Bridge to Commander Avik, Comm check.=^=

Marsh

“Cain’t read a word of it…” Franklin drawled, not looking at Avik. He began to check his kit as he joined the group. “But I could rig the computer to translate the text on all panels if that helps. Though that won’t do us no good for posted signage.” The engineer popped open his tool case, gave it a once over, then closed and locked it again. He also subtly patted the phaser strapped to his belt. “Anybody check the life support over there? Bet that air’s staler’n my uncle’s barn…”

-Franklin

When Marsh’s voice came on, Avik didn’t answer instantly. Instead, she listened to the officer’s reply then nodded. She answered her comm badge with a snappy, quick movement based on reflex.

=^= Avik here, it seems to be working. I have a question. Did we determine if the life support system on the ship were working or not? =^=

She hoped they wouldn’t have to go over in environmental suits. Her attention returned to the conversation.

“I was hoping you did. Using the consoles could prove challenging without the right knowledge.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

=&=We have breathable air on the Klingon ship.=^= Marsh had to confirm his readings.

Marsh

Franklin nodded as Marsh’s voice sounded. “Good, we can breathe. I call that a win.” The Petty Officer grinned and patted his tool kit. “I hate not being able to breathe.”
-Franklin
