The Captain strode down the corridor just outside Main Engineering. Outwardly, it would appear as though he was traveling from somewhere specific to somewhere else specific. It was actually the case that he was going nowhere in particular for no particular reason. He was ruminating. Like his walking, the ruminating was also taking him in circles.

I’ve been in command here for nine years now, he thought again just as he started his next loop. But what have I actually accomplished here, really?

That was the question he had been stuck on all evening. He didn’t consciously know why that was bothering him now, but it was.

“Midnight ruminations Captain?” Siennadye Nox asked as she saw him passing the corridor leading to the Arboretum. Dressed in a lovely and comfortable pink jersey knit dress that curved very nicely along her body and gold sandals. Technically it could be any time, but from what she felt from him, it was very much along the thoughts one has in the late night when they cannot sleep. She often took solace in the arboretum, wandering at ‘night’ when she could not sleep. TOnight was one such night and she hoped he would not mind her slight intrusion.

“Heh,” he acknowledged simply as he stopped. He took in her appearance, noting that she seemed like one of those people with a “style” that worked for them off duty, even though he wasn’t actually sartorially gifted enough to really consciously understand what it was or why it worked.

“Did you tune in already?” he asked casually. If it were someone else, he’d realize that she asked the question because she had been ruminating just as he had. But the other Siennadye was never really shy about reading his “loud” thoughts, so he naturally assumed that was what prompted her question. Thus, obliviousness was set to prevail again.
