“Yeah. My mom said she was a good scientist, but really didn’t love it. I think my mom only is sad about Cass’ transfer because they don’t get to hang out in the labs anymore. Apparently they had a lot of fun. But then again, my mom moved to astrometrics, so she’s not in the labs as much anymore either.” Jerrin shrugged.

“When coworkers move or shift positions and we don’t get to see them often anymore, it can be sad. I miss all of mine. Every last one of them is in a place I can’t reach. It’s hard not to talk to your best friend every day, especially if he was your husband.” Sienna had slowly stopped her task as she spoke and swallowed hard before turning back to pull out individual serving dishes so they could set the table. It was going to be dinner time soon.

Jerrin gave Nox a curious look but didn’t say anything, despite feeling what… sympathy? Understanding? The strange thing was that he never really missed anything about Tenra, and yet, even then, he wished he was there still. But only sometimes. The Europa was far better in more ways than he could explain, and was at loss to explain the weird sense of nostalgia for a place that had never been particularly kind to him.

“Anyway, who would you like to invite to dinner? Your mom certainly.... Johann too? Anyone else?”

Nox, CNS

HIs eyes went wide. “Wait, what? People are going to eat with us?” It wasn’t a crazy idea, just not one he was expecting.

~Jerrin

She hadn’t expected his surprise, but really, she should have. She gave him a soft smile. “My grandmother always said that good food is best shared. Why not share your hard work with those you care for. However, if you wish the dinner to be just you and me, I would be honored to have it be so. It is up to you, like so many things are.” she said as she turned and began to transfer dinnerware to the table.

“Yeah, right,” he muttered under his breath.

She found his reaction curious though not surprising. It was good to know that this was something they need to touch on and work on.

Jerrin surveyed the assembled lasagna that was now cooking in the oven and chewed on the inside of his cheek. What did he want in this instance. It wasn’t like he was going to lash out at his mom or Johann, and he was the better cook between the him and his mom. Maybe it would be okay to share this with her. But anyone more would… what? Make him feel studied and under a microscope? He knew he was already, even if Nox was nice to hang about with.

“You can invite my mom and Johann,” he said at length, his tone completely neutral despite the slight nervousness he felt. Which was silly. How many times had he made dinner? Except that was mostly replicated.

~Jerrin

She simply nodded and sent the invitation to both parties for 30 minutes from now then she turned to Jerrin. “So when I said it was up to you, like so many things are, why did you express the way you did?”

Nox, CNS
