A few minutes later, they entered in the spacious quarters set aside for VIPs. Cass already knew her mother wold object, but she was being entirely overridden in this instance. Commander Abrams needed rest, quiet and a moment to not be in crisis, despite her crew being dispersed between 3 ships and two major surgeries on people important to her going on.

Cass pointed to the lavatory. “Go. Shower. We’ll have food ready when you’re done and I’ll see about a change of uniform.”

Norene appraised her daughter with an unexpectedly amused look and saluted. “Yes, Ma’am,” she said with almost a laugh before she moved off to the shower.

Turning to Steven, Cass finally could drop her protective wall. “Well, this is both better and worse than I was expecting,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. her mind couldn’t process that her father was in sickbay being treated for injuries that he might not survive. But she had her mother, who, despite looking a little worse for wear, was okay. The adrenaline of the last days and hours was wearing off and she drew closer to Steven, arms open.

“Time isn’t a factor anymore.” He said as he looked at Cassidy. “It might not feel right to slow down and relax, but there is nothing we can do right now aside from wait and regain our strength.” He left out the part where he would have said and hope for the best. No one not even he wanted to talk about the elephant in the room which was the possibility of Cassidy’s father dying. The fact of the matter was that the fact they were here worrying about his survival opposed to planing an empty casket funeral for both of her parents was because of her.

Stepping closer, Cassidy wrapped her arms around him, her body relaxing slightly as her fingers made contact. “I know,” she said softly. Gazing up slightly (not that she had to look up very far), she smiled wearily. “It feels like the longest few days of my life. Thank you, for all your help. For keeping sane.” And she meant it. As much as they both enjoyed playing hard, she knew that when the stakes were high, Steven was reliable and true.

He held her for a moment, then looked up over her shoulder. He didn’t really know what Cassidy’s relationship with her mother was. He didn’t want to make the Commander and the mother of his girlfriend angry. That would be an unpleasant two for one. “You had every right to go a little insane… which by the way, you didn’t. You’re stronger than most Lieutenant Abrams - you’d give your mother a run for her money.”

Cass gave a lopsided smile. “Damn right,” she said fondly.

Speaking of mother, Norene reappeared looking, if not less fatigued, cleaned up and a bit refreshed. A clean and undamaged uniform did most officers wonders but especially so for those in Command. “Tempting though it was, I managed to avoid just wanting to sleep on the floor of the shower.”

Marsh detached himself from the commanders daughter smoothly and quickly, it was as if he had done that several times before. It was certainly quick but there was little chance it was unnoticed.

Cass chuckled. “Soon…” she said softly.

Norene nodded, smiling at the pair. It lasted only a moment before she wandered over to the replicator. “Real food. Not even sure what I want to eat.”

“Beef pot pie?” Cassidy suggested.

Norene snapped her fingers and pointed at her daughter. “That is a very good suggestion. Could go for that. You two want anything?”

Cass shook her head and looked at Steven. What she wanted to quip was something along the lines of a bottle of rum or vodka, but somehow that seemed unnecessary. At the moment.

“I’m a red meat sort of guy, but I’m staying away from the carbs. Perhaps roast beef.” He looked at Cassidy. “You should eat though. You’ve been burning the candle from both ends and you were skin and bones to start with.”

He smiled at the commander warmly for a moment. “I have a bottle of Château Pape Clément in my quarters. It’s a red so it should go well with beef and if you’re a little tired it has been known to give very pleasant dreams. So I have been told at least.”
