IC: Once the access panel was opened, Sharah moved into the jeffries tube and then down the ladder to the stuck turbo lift. Opening the access hatch from the top she looked down to find Lt. Cmdr. Avik and Lt. j.g. Zorell. From the way Zorell was holding her arm, she was the one injured. “Lt. Cmdr. I’m going to drop a medkit down. The Lt. will need to be stabilized before transport, but that may be awhile. There are systems failures of varying degrees around the ship.” Carefully Sharah dropped the medkit down into the turbolift to the XO. And then, because there was nothing more she could do from that vantage point and unaware if it was safe to add more weight to the stuck lift she climbed back out and onto deck 2. =^=Sickbay to En Fayth. As soon as you are able, we need extra hands here. We know you are helping clear the decks, so whenever you are able.=^= She looked at Trenton, they were done here, but the influx of pain and panic from around the ship, and the intense pain from the Lt in the turbolift had made her slightly unsteady. She looked at Abbrams, “the XO has medical training. There isn’t anything more I can do here, I need to return to sickbay.” She looked at Ashlyn, “En Trenton, if I could get you to walk back with me. I’m not sure if it’s the emotional overload or a slight case of vertigo or maybe a side effect of the linger smoke, but I”m slightly unsteady. I’d prefer not to wander back to the safe point alone.”

Cassidy nodded and gave Sharah a small smile. “You did go. Go take care of yourself.”

At the sight of other people and the realization that rescue was imminent, Vora suddenly broke down into silent sobs.

Lt. (j.g.) Zorell, Sciences

Careful of her position, Abrams poked her head over the opening and while she was relieved to see her friend, seeing Vora in distress only amplified the delicateness of the situation. “Hey, focus on me, on my voice. Everything is going to be okay Vora.”

“You alright, Commander?” Cassidy asked.

At Vora’s weak response, a flux of emotions pressed against Avik’s mental defenses. It began to crack. Small at first, little leaks here or there. Each one began to distract her attention. Now, the protection sported fissures across the surface.

Avik’s ears barely heard Vora’s response through the dull, deep breaths. Her fingers clenched into fists and she tightened up. A child’s voice rattled in her head. Her own from years ago.

‘Mother, what’s going on? Why do I feel… sad… terrible… I can’t stop. It doesn’t make sense, I shouldn’t feel this way. Mother? Mother! Please make it stop! Stop it!’

The present seemed to swirl and fade into the background. Emotions she hadn’t felt this strongly in years flooded her. Several moments passed before Avik could break herself from the thoughts haunting her.

Her face tilted up to face the CSO. Tears… trailed down her cheeks as she fought the war to control her own emotions. A war, she couldn’t win. Not when she was a child or now.

She spoke with a voice that didn’t match the display. One struggling to remain calm despite the helplessness. “Physically, yes. Mentally and emotionally… I’m not.”

Oh boy! This was suddenly not at all what she expected. Moving carefully atop the turbolift car, Abrams got down flat on her stomach, bracing her arms on the edge of the hatch and gazing down at the two distraught women. Craning her head back, Cassidy looked at Ashlyn. “Ensign, I think I may need to go down there. We need a harnessing system we can attach to the lift shaft framework. Just the usual set-up. Once I’m down, we can switch things out to get Vora and the Commander out.”

Ashlyn had just arrived after having taken Sharah back to a safe place to allow her to rest away from the psychic influenced noise that was being generated in her head. Thankfully she came prepared for the request having come to a similar conclusion before she left with Sharah. “One step ahead of you, boss.” Ashlyn started setting up the harnesses with practiced efficiency, applying the magnetic anchors into the adjoined Jefferies Tube and feeding the lines so that if the magnetic anchor should fail the line will catch instead on the access rim, not that the magnet will fail. With some coordination, Ashlyn prepped the harnesses for Cass and the people she’s going down to rescue. She also handed over a splinting system for Cass to make sure any injuries were held in place and not stressed during extraction from the turbolift. Once ready, Ashlyn gave the line a few solid tugs to make sure the magnets and line links held, then gave the COS a thumbs up. “Line is secure and we’re clear to begin extraction.”

Abrams paused briefly to give Trenton a grateful nod of her head and wasted no time lowering herself down. She more or less dropped down but controlled the line tension at the end so she could be precise and soft in her landing. Setting down the supplies, Cassidy knelt in front of Avik. Vora was going to be a different situation to deal with and she could tell at a glance that her friend was elsewhere. As much as they needed to disrupt that, she needed space to help Vora and getting Avik up and out first would help since she wasn’t injured. Reaching out, Abrams rested her hands on Avik’s arms, projecting calm and happy thoughts. “Focus on me,” she said softly, smiling at the Vulcan. “You are okay and we’re going to get you out of here. Feel the warm sunshine I can remember on my skin, the calmness of the dead of summer. It’s peaceful. Find that peace. I have you.” She hoped she didn’t miscalculate here but years of helping re-centre Vora seemed useful here.

Avik struggled to remain in control. When Abrams touched her, her mind snapped and her head turned to focus on the woman. The tears still welled in the corner of her eyes. A sense of lost filled Avik’s usually calm features before the calm began to wash over her. In despiration, she focused on that sensation even when it wasn’t hers.

“I’m trying… not my emotions.” Avik managed to choke out.

She took a deep breath, but the physical action did nothing to help. The emotions she suffered weren’t even hers and it would only worsen the longer she remained in here.

“I need distance. Anyone in this room is within my telepathic range. I’m not sure how long this calm will last before I’m overwhelmed again. I can’t deal with this happening again…” Avik felt sick at the thought.
