Avik signaled for the nearest crewman and barked orders for the weapons.

“We might have a canon or two, but I don’t think it would get very far. They appear to be out of range at this point.” Avik stated as she mentally calculated the distance. Not an easy feat when she lacked proper or accurate instruments to do it.

Other men were preparing to be boarded as they rushed about. Avik managed to avoid any collision and walked her way up to the Captain’s position. Mindful of the woman’s warm-up stretches, the Vulcan XO carefully darted just out of range.

After a few minutes, the man rushed up. In his arms was a small collection of cutlasses, daggers, and one or two one-shot muskets guns. The powder dangled from a young boy’s grasp who followed the older man up.

Avik glanced at Aslyn. “I hope you know how to use one of these.”

Ashlyn grinned wildly at the XO, “No clue at all. Probably should have had some introductory programs first.” Ashlyn observed the ship for a brief moment. “From what you remember of human ships in the 18th century-ish, where would you say the powder room is? I’m trying to decide if we should target the main source of their weapons and potentially sink their ship or go for the difficult shot of their mast and cripple their ship so they can’t follow us.” Ashlyn held up her cutlass with a raised eyebrow. “I pray we don’t get boarded, this is not my ideal combat element.”

“This could be a tutorial and allowing us to learn without fully breaking the illusion.”

Her hand reached out and picked up a glowing blade. She carefully examined. Almost instantly, data overlapped into her sight. It indicated the dangerous side, how her hand should be positioned on it, and more. Like a virtual reality guide for a player in a game. She promptly corrected her finger’s position.

“I just picked up a sword and the visual overlapped activated. Just more evidence to show that if we’re supposed to know how to use it, we just need to touch it.”

She paused upon hearing Ashlyn’s question.

“The powder magazine is located in the ship’s center. So it will take a lot to hit and sink it. Mast has better odds.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

Ashlyn picked up the sword and held it according to the visual prompt, then shook her head. “What I mean is that I have no formal training with the use of a blade like this. No idea how to move my body correctly and there is no way for the program to move it for us. The only time I’ve had a chance to use melee weapons in training was in the academy, you know what I learned from that? Don’t fight Klingons on their terms, you will lose. So instead, I learned to take advantage of my surroundings to lay traps and obstacles to slow and disable opponents. I try not to face off against an opponent at all. Either way, use a chain shot if we have it. It’s designed for taking down a mast. If we don’t, use what we have and take out their propulsion.”
