“It wasn’t anything… and I’m throwing you under the bus in an embarrassingly cowardly manner. You will lose respect for me as a boyfriend, as a man, and as a human. I would imagine if I didn’t look like this… you might lose interest in me sexually as well… but fortunately for us both, we know that’s not going to happen.”

Marsh

She laughed lightly, trying to keep her voice low so she didn’t wake her mother. “Well, I’m sure I can forgive you,” Cass said as she tilted her chin upwards and planted a line of kisses along his jaw. “Since you’re right, really not possible to lose interest in you in all the ways that count.”

Abrams, COS

“Keep your head above the blanket young lady.” Steven said as the trail of kisses moved down his face. “This is how it starts, 8 months later along comes baby Steven. And yes I said eight months… I’m very virile - you get very pregnant when its me.”

Marsh

It was said so casually that it would have been able to just laugh it off and let it slide. But Steven wasn’t the kind to mention something like babies out of the blue like that. Or was he? Cassidy pulled her head back, amusement darting across her face. “Is that so? Huh, didn’t know biology worked that way. Certainly adds a whole other dimension to the idea, you know… if you’re not being traditional about the order of life events and all. You should be careful though. It almost sounds like a proposition,” she added with a gleam in her blue eyes.

Abrams, COS

Marsh raised an eyebrow, “Are we having that conversation now, with your mother 5 meters away. And yes, my virileness overwhelms the basic rules of biology Uber-Mensch.” He wondered if it was her intention to start the conversation. They had been going out for quite a while, it was the natural step, although Marsh didn’t really spend alot of time thinking of setting down.

Marsh

Well, that was the question, wasn’t it? “Don’t worry about her. She has an incredible ability to sleep deeply and be awake at a moment’s notice. Always has. She’s not secretly listening in on our quiet conversation,” Cass said with a smirk. Curled up under the blanket with him, she lifted his hand and slipped her fingers between his, squeezing gently.

“Don’t worry about that? Are you kidding me, you don’t become a Commander without having ears like a Liberian Bat.”

Cass sighed. “I enjoy my work, but we both know it’s not the end all and be all. I’m still not even sure if I want to be a true career officer. But I’ve been happy, especially here with you, with us. You would think that having nearly lost both my parents in one go and still having the possibility that my father might die, that I would be scared of wanting to have any of that. But it doesn’t scare me Steven. If anything, it makes me want to live more. What that looks like I don’t know, but I’m open to the possibilities. And that includes children.” She tipped her head towards him and grinned. “I think I’d make a great mother.” There was no demand or ultimatum here. Just an idle consideration of an idea. Though she could admit that between both their looks and intelligence any kids they had together had a decent shot at the genetic lottery.

Abrams, COS

“I’m sure you would. Call me old fashion, I think children should have at least two parents,” He looked off and then back. “My history has not had displayed any evidence of being great at responsibility. Particularly with children who are a 24-7-365-20ish year job.”

“Not to mention, I think we are skipping about a half a dozen steps which includes marriage.”
