The man jumped immediately then whipped about to face her. His skin paled for a moment until Ashlyn spoke, the fear replaced with relief. All tension faded from his posture.

“I th-th-thought…You shot-t-t.” The man’s stutter trailed off then stopped.

He glanced about the alley but found only Avik stroll started to stroll toward them. Mr. Limestone gradually calmed then pulled out the small parcel in his cloak pocket. He offered it to her. It was about a foot wide and long, a few inches high. The whole surface was wrapped in butcher paper and tightly wound with a frayed cord. Wear appeared to thin where he gripped the corners. Dark wood with strange, burnt engravens peeked out through the small holes.

“This goes to Captain Stemming at the Northern Hunter’s Peak. Don’t let anyone know you have it. I can’t trust just anyone and… I don’t have much time to linger. Here is your payment” He pulled a small bag of coins from his other pocket.

Avik shot a subtle look toward Ashlyn.

(OOC: Sorry for the wait, work got busy)
Ashlyn accepted the box and the money from the man as he calmed down enough to be coherent, then proceeded to take to the rooftops and offered an arm to Avik to help her up. “No point in staying on the roads while it’s likely the angry mob is still looking for us. We should make sure the ship has been restocked, pay those that need paying, then get out of town to let calmer heads prevail.”

As soon as the Lieutenant Commander was on the roof, Ashlyn sprinted off yet again! Keeping to elevated locations to avoid busy roads and alleys to make her way back to the ship.

Avik shook her head but she took the lift up. With a sharp tugged up, she pressed her foot into the stone wall and stepped up with surprising grace. Once on top, she steadied her footing and looked back in the distance. As predicted, the Captain was right. A large mob had gathered then filtered out into the alleyways. It was a matter of minutes before they crossed onto their little gathering.

“You did shoot a tavern’s roof with a pistol. If they weren’t upset, something’s wrong with their logic.” Avik pointed out as she followed the Captain.

As they hopped and skipped from one roof to another, the dock drew closer. By the time they had made it back to the ship, the crew finished up with restock and any repairs. A stoat man with parchment book and quill wandered along the deck.

“Where’s the Captain? I need to see the Captain!” It appeared to be the dockmaster aiming to collect his fee.

Ashlyn waved her hands to get the mans attention, “Over here! I’m the Captain. Sorry about that, I thought I had taken care of the fees before I did my running around.” Trenton dug through her pockets and dropped a generous amount of coin into the man’s hand as compensation for his troubles, or because ancient currencies wasn’t a concept she was too familiar with. “No problems from the crew I presume?” The question had been a means of idle chatter that was cut off when one of the mob recognizing her from the distance.

Shouting loudly to get the rest of the mobs attention, Ashlyn quickly turned to Avik, “That’s our cue, time to go.” Ashlyn did a flourishing bow to the Dock Master while backing toward the gang plank of the ship. “It was a pleasure doing business, we’ll be on our way now.” Wasting no time getting onto the ship, Ashlyn did what she could to help the crew get the ship underway before the angry mob arrived to torch the ship. “To Northern Hunter’s Peak we must make way with as much haste as the winds can give us!”

Not a very good sea captain

The man whirled about on his right foot and looked Ashlyn up then down. As if he debated on the truth of her statement, he finally decided it didn’t matter. The dockmaster struggled to keep track of a large amount of coin suddenly placed in his hands. During his haste, a few dropped on the wooden deck.

His hands suddenly became filled with generous amounts of coins. They struggled to count and hold them. When he caught the Captain’s words, he answered immediately.

“Of course, mistakes happen. But no, your crew has been rather helpful.” It appeared the extra amount of fees had brightened his mood. It wouldn’t last long when the mob started to edge toward the docks.

Avik suspected he would be pocketing the surplus amount and noted it in the back of her head.

“I agree.” She began to reach for the sail riggings as she helped the crew unfurl them.

The white cloth snapped to life when and wind pushed at the ties. The ropes went taut, and boards creaked the moment the ship started to pull away from the docks. Avik noticed the first of the mob arrive at the dock’s entrance. A few brave souls could’ve launched themselves from the plank edge onto the ship.

She shouted for a select few crew members to gather their weapons and put on a menacing display on the ship’s sides.

It caused the first arrivals to pause in their pursuit. Their eyes wide and mouth pressed tightly to witness their quarry elude them.

Avik took a breath of relief to see them stopped in their tracks. She ordered her assistance to collect the weapons and store them once more. Casually she made her way back to the Captain with her classic indifferent expression.

She pulled out a map that appeared to mark a few hazards on the map. Chicken scratched names stood beside each one. Dragon’s Teeth peaks, Kraken’s lair, and various other ‘mythical’ named locations.

“What is our probability that these locations aren’t just named for their looks?” Avik looked for Ashlyn’s honest opinion over her statement.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr (Secretly glad Ashlyn isn’t the CO of the Europa :P)

Ashlyn looked over the map with Avik and shook her head at each ‘hazard’ listed. “Given the nature of this program, I’m going to guess a hard thirteen percent. I don’t really know the author too well so I can’t narrow it down further and there is a seven percent margin of error. I at least suggest we avoid anything that says ‘siren’ or ‘kraken’ as either of those would likely cause an abrupt end of the program.”

Trenton pulled out a compass and a few other tools to start plotting the course for the ship, trying to find the best route to avoid as many hazards that look like they may obliterate the ship or the crew. “I don’t really like our odds on this route to Northern Hunter’s Peak, but it avoids the yawning abyss and two Krakens. It does send us by Siren’s Pools, but I don’t know if that’s a fancy inn name or literal pools of sirens. We would, however, have two viable stop locations to resupply and keep from running our of food and water, plus it has the added benefit of giving the sailors a chance to stretch their legs on land before we continue the journey. Thoughts?”
