The Andorian wasn’t an empath at all, but he did seem to find opening up easy with the Counselor. Perhaps making an effort would make life a little more interesting on the Europa. “I do enjoy a change of scenery, but my wanderlust has been mostly slaked. I’ve been a military man all my life, and you know how that is. Never stayed in one post longer than a few years after the Academy. I don’t wander the ship much, but I’ve been known to lurk occasionally… Does the lounge carry any actual alcohol?” He wondered now how much holodeck time he’d acrued, it might be fun to look into some old holonovels on his off time.

She sipped her tea, watching him as he spoke. Being an empath could give insight to many things, but physical movements or stillness as well as how someone spoke could give a lot of information for the discerning eye. “It does. I believe we get a regular shipment from Delaney Whiskey Distillery. A Lieutenant Junior Grade that was stationed here before I came was the daughter of the owners. She knew the Captain enjoyed a good whiskey and makes sure to send some along every year or so. I am not much of a whiskey fan, but they make sure there are other real alcohols too. I think her parent’s pub is also a holodeck program she left here, come to think of it. I saw it on the list of personal programs open to public use when I was perusing the menu yesterday contemplating what I want to do with my holodeck time coming up. Please tell me you are not one of those people who hates the holodeck.”

Nox, CNS

“Well, I’m not a big drinker… but if I’m imbibing, I prefer authenticity.” He made his version of a wry grin, which involved a deft movement of antennae. At the mention of the holodeck, he let the grin stay. “I am not one of those people, however I’ve been told my tastes are somewhat odd. Most people find Andorian history a bit off-putting, unless they have ancestory involving vikings, and being Andorian the literature from human culture which appeals most ot me is of the Noir/mystery variety.” Truth be told, Tolar actually owned several series of ancient 1930’s earth Noir books, finding some heartwarming paralells with Andorian society in them.

She grinned. “I love a good mystery. I am not one of those people who are super physical. I don’t use the holodeck for things like parkour or martial arts training. Ensign Trenton would be aghast to learn this I am sure. They are recruiting everyone they can to play in their program. But no. I like ambiance and storytelling and thinking. I suppose that goes along with my line of work, but its just the way I have always been. If I am available the next time you want to do a mystery on the holodeck, I would be glad to join you.”

Nox, CNS

“That sounds like fun… I was actually about to start a new holonovel, if you’re really interested.” Zarath tapped the dregs out of the bottom of his teacup on the grass. It was rather impressive for him to get along with another medical professional. “You could join me…”

She smiled warmly at the unexpected invitation and nodded enthusiastically. Sienna was quick to put away the breakfast picnic and close up the basket. Her only appointment today had been with the new doctor and thus she had the rest of the day to do as she wished. This sounded like the perfect thing and she could get to know the doctor better. They were sure to work closely together throughout their service aboard the Europa. If they worked well together on a holonovel, perhaps it would be indicative of how they would work together on the ship and away missions. Plus, she could use a bit of fun.

Nox, CNS

“Wonderful.” His expression brightened. “I have a couple of holonovels to choose from, do you have any preference about police procedurals, or would you rather enjoy something a bit more classic?”

He hadn’t expected her to take him up on the idea… This was a pleasant surprise.

She thought about this and smiled. “I do like solving a mystery. Perhaps a period mystery of some kind? Regency, Victorian, Edwardian? It might be because I love costumes a bit too much.” Her smile widened and she laughed at herself a bit. Sienna hadn’t realized how much she needed an escape and some down time, but just the mere thought of doing the holonovel was filling her with excitement.

Nox, CNS

“I may have just the thing… The series is titled ‘Doctor Sam Johnson, Detector’. It’s about an English physician who solves crimes in 18th century London.” It was not lost on Zarath that a piece of fiction in which the doctor was the titular hero was perhaps a bit telling as to his psyche, but it was one of the only works he’d collected that was from the era she’d suggested. Oh well… The point was to open up and get out of the box, wasn’t it? He tried not to chuckle sheepishly.
