It was several hours before the Europa was due to drop off the pilot’s ship at the space station. Avik had left a senior officer in charge of the bridge. If any further communications or changes happened, they had been instructed to contact her immediately. For now, the XO needed to address her crew. She summoned all the department heads to the CO’s ready room for them to update not just her, but each one too. It also ensured everyone could weigh in on the upcoming events. She quietly waited until everyone arrived and took a seat. Avik began the meeting.

“I believe the first order of business would be the CO’s condition. Lieutenant Commander Zarath, can you update us?” She knew depending on the CO’s condition, it would affect their progress.

“After that should be the ship.” Avik smoothly added before the CMO began.

”‘Doctor‘ suits me just fine, if you please.” The Andorian seemed to prefer to stand, his cane before him as always, though he handed a PaDD over to the XO. “Captain Dvorak is sleeping at present, though he was awake for a few minutes this morning. I have to sedate the man to keep him from getting up before he’s ready… However, he’ll be fit for light-duty in the next 24 to 48 hours, if he doesn’t aggravate his condition.” Here he gave Avik a look as if to plead for her not to encourage such behavior. “If he doesn’t rest enough for his immune system to recover, his body could very well reject his implants again. This means he probably shouldn’t risk coming into contact with any alien pathogens or particles until I’ve had a chance to screen things. Which, of course, he won’t like…” Zarath’s gravelly voice trailed off, one antenna questing slightly apart from the other as he looked around the meeting.

“Of course,” Avik used a subtle phrase to apologize.

Her head turned to spot the PaDD, her hand instinctively retrieved it. The information about the CO’s condition was on full display as she lightly scrolled down, her mind absorbed the familiar medical terms. She was relieved to hear the Captain gradually recover, but the Andorian’s expression stirred a defensive emotion. A foolish, illogical response that she pushed back into her bottle. It didn’t serve her well in this setting or keep her head clear.

“The CO is a strong-willed individual, but he’s not reckless. I agree with your medical assessment. When you release him for active duty again, we’ll go with the best option to preserve his health.” Avik wasn’t afraid to nerve pinch the Captain if his desires overwhelmed his self-preservation instinct.

Avik’s disagreement didn’t mean much to Zarath, who actually wanted to like the First Officer despite her having been born Vulcan. He could see that like himself, she intended that the Captain have the best chances of survival. Though, in his opinion, most Vulcans needed a good strong dose of Psilocybin… Or maybe Ketamine. He mused that they themselves encouraged ritualistic behaviors as a way to ensure social norms… Who was he to question Shamanic medicine practices?

In fact, she intended to limit the number of crew exposed to the planet until the origins of the technological advancements were determined then move from there. Something about a primitive civilization that appeared to jump stages didn’t settle well with her. It is possible that Starfleet’s report on the planet was flawed, but the probability was low.

“Do you know what caused it?” She suspected it had something to do with the solar flare or something else, but she wanted a second opinion to confirm it.

“As best I can tell, it was radiation from the System’s star that overloaded some of the micro-transformers in the Captain’s implants. We’ve taken steps to shield the device from further interference.” The Andorian offered a tight smile to the Vulcan as he ended his speech.

“It fits the timing as I suspected, and thank you for confirming that.” Avik determined a bit of politeness was in order after she received the information.

“Do you suspect there to be any lasting damage from the event?” She couldn’t stop the question from slipping through her lips. Even a hint of hesitation was there for a split second afterward, but she didn’t think anyone noticed.

Once she finished with the CMO, her attention turned to the CoS and CSO.

“Now, how did the examination of the ship go?”

OOC: Going to bump this so it stays on the board.
