So far so good. Adir’s neuro scans continued to look good and though his recovery was slow, he was finally allowed to move to guest quarters. Which suited Norene just fine and she was happy to split her time as they made their way back to base between checking on the Tian An Men’s crew and tending to her husband.

Cassidy went back to her shifts but was still only doing part days while she too spent time with the father she had nearly lost, while sneaking in dinner and lunch here and there with Steven. While normally easy going, she was more reserved and thoughtful. Then again, a lot had happened so she had a lot to be thoughtful (and thankful) about.

So it was on the fifth day and a day out of base that the Abrams family found themselves in the lounge having a small bite to eat now that Adir was able to sit up on his own for more than a few minutes. Taking up one of the larger corner tables, laughter could be heard here and there emanating from the table. Norene was in her duty uniform, as was Cassidy and they formed a protective shell around the man who looked frail but his piercing blue eyes belied an inner well of strength.

Doctor Carson Lowe walked into Nine Forward, and without really looking at anyone, walked up to the bar and ordered a lunch of a Cobb salad and tomato soup. After his food arrived, he turned to look for a place to sit. He was surprised to see a familiar face in Cassidy Abrams sitting with another woman and an older man. Hoping he would not be to intrusive he walked towards their table.

“Excuse me, Lieutenant.” he asked, “May I join you and your party?”

OOC: For quick reference for all, I have been running a side sim for ages now that ‘m slowly wrapping up. The guist of it is that the USS Tian An Men went missing. Her mother serves as first officer, and her father is a medic there. After the search crews had no luck, Cass went to the Captain to ask if they could be put on the search team. He agreed and got approval. Longs tory short is that after avoiding an ion storm, the ship was attacked out of the blue by some sort of mercenary ship sporting a mix of tech. Some significant hints pointed to it being Talarian, but they couldn’t be certain. The TAM’s surviving crew evacuated the ship. With the help of the rest of the Europa’s crew, they found the surviving crew on a planet inundated with gamma radiation. Their captain suffered a catastrophic fall and had brain damage and had been in a coma, and Cass’ father Adir has internal bleeding. After being rescued from the planet (the TAM’s crew was split between the Europa and two other Starfleet vessels), both Adir and Captain Massey went into surgery, but Massey’s coma looks to be permanent. Adir had a rough go of it and they almost lost him, but he’s pulled through and slowly recovering. I’m assuming that the crew on the Europa know about these events, if only loosely that there was a rescue mission.

Cassidy looked up and after a small moment smiled at Warwick. Despite knowing he was going by the other name, her brain just didn’t seem to care and insisted on referring to him as Shane. So Shane Warwick he would be forever more, regardless of the name that slipped from her lips. “Doctor Lowe, good day.” She gestured to the table. “By all means, join us. I was just telling my parents that they should be prepared for a more social experience since they opted for the Lounge,” she said with a grin.

Lowe took the invitation and sat across from the family. He placed his tray down and straightened his uniform, then looked up and smiled.

She gestured to her parents in turn. “Carson Lowe, this is my mom Commander Norene Abrams, and my father Lieutenant Adir Abrams. Carson is a doctor here on the Europa.”

Lowe stood up and shook the hand of each of Abram’s parents in turn. When he sat down he picked up his fork, but didn’t start eating.

“This is my second assignment aboard Europa, and I have had the pleasure of working with your daughter both times.” He added with a friendly smile. “I have had some memory issues as of late, so please excuse me if I have asked this question before. Are the two of you assigned to Europa or are you just visiting?”

Norene gave a light laugh. “Just visiting rather unexpectedly actually,” she said, casting a brief but warm smile at her daughter before gazing at Carson. “I am”-she frowned for a moment-“was the first officer of the Tian An Men. I’m acting Captain for the time being while we sort things out.”

“And I’m a medic with the same crew,” Adir said, his voice soft but measured. “We encountered mercenaries and from what everyone tells me, we’re lucky we evacuated when we did. Though I’m starting to think I should be grateful I was unconscious and missed most of the fun. At least I didn’t have to worry about you cooking, Love.”

Norene feigned shock. “I would never. Rations all the way. Safer for all involved.”

Cassidy just shook her head and looked at Shane. “A regular comedy duo, these two,” she said dryly, though her fondness for her parents was evident in her smile. “We managed to get assigned to the search and rescue team and we found them before…” She trailed off, pasting a smile on her face as she nudged a bowl of soup closer to her father. “You. Eat. Doctor’s orders. Which is just as well, because I need a couple promotions in order to give you orders myself.”

Adir just smirked, he clear blue eyes alight with mirth. “Is she always this demanding?” he asked Carson as he pulled the soup closer and then sipped on a spoonful, his hand a tiny shaky.

Carson ate his salad while the Abram’s talked. He smiled at the comradery and love Cassady’s parents shared. It remined him of his own parents for a second, and that brought back melancholy feelings of his own. He didn’t realize how much he had missed them over the years until he saw the couple before him.

He was brought back to the present when asked the question by Adir. He looked over at Cassidy as he spoke. “She has always kept me on my toes.” he added with a sparkle in his voice. “Initially, I was drawn in by her beauty. Who wouldn’t be?”

He then continued, “But as I have worked with her, I have seen her differently… A determined dedication to her duty… A fierce loyalty to her friends… Clearly, one of the better officers I have worked with.”
