Avik stood silently in the transporter room 1, waiting for the CSO, CoS, and the Counselor to arrive. The CO and her agreed a small team would do for the first interaction. As she waited, NE Hawkins had been in charge of ejecting the ship for the Sllrak to retrieve.

After a small conversation, the Europa received a set of coordinates. This was the location for contact and investigation over the inhabitants’ progress. A small worry began to bud in her mind. She hoped the CO’s condition wouldn’t deteriorate further, but as a safety measure, she left the CMO on the ship. If anyone could handle any complications, it would be him.

Her eyes wandered to the doorway, expecting to see the team shortly.

NE Hawkins had gently tractored the damaged warp craft out of the shuttlebay and into space where one of the alien non-warp ships came and tugged it towards the space station with a robot arm.

Abrams arrived shortly thereafter, inconspicuously armed. She nodded to Avik. “Commander. Anything new I should know before this begins?”

Abrams, COS

“Unfortunately, I have shared all I know.” Avik began, deciding to recount what she shared in the message.

Their name was the Sllrak, an amphibian race. According to the medical records, the pilot’s death left very little to examine or glean information off of when it vanished into pure energy. Without additional data, it was difficult to properly judge the type of civilization they were about to interact with.

“From the small conversation we had, they appear interested in meeting us. I theorize it more for gains than actual selfless reasons. Besides making contact, we’re conducting a subtle investigation to confirm their technological advancements are natural. Any evidence of outside inference should be noted and recorded.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

Abrams nodded. “Understood. I’m carrying a sidearm with me but based on your interactions so far, do you believe openly carrying or concealing to be the way to go?” A people’s paranoia could make initial interactions difficult if they perceived you were trying to be deceitful by hiding, but also some cultures abhorred weapons. She doubted the latter was true here, but still she valued the XO’s assessment of the situation.

Abrams, COS

Avik took a moment to consider the question. She saw the same issues Abrams did, though in a more logical and data sense. With less information over the culture, it was difficult to lean to one side or the other. She decided a middle ground was optimal for this task.

“I suggest not actively hide it, but do not have it on full display. A middle ground, I believe is the proper phrase?” The XO took a questioning tone as if allowing Abrams to confirm her assumptions.

OOC: Oooh, good question. Once the rest ‘arrive’ in the thread we can kick off this meeting on the planet.

OOC: Going to poke this to put it back on the board. Still waiting on the CSO and Counselor to join us, I believe.

-Janice B.

OOC: What’s wrong with my reading I didn’t even know I was invited.

Cassidy nodded. “Holstered it is then.” While she couldn’t be entirely prepared for a first face-to-face meeting with a new species, she did know that at least mentally going through various scenarios could give her and the rest of the team even a modicum of advantage should things go badly.

Marsh came in late, as was common, his equipment was already on, tricorder and phaser on his hips. He had actually placed 2 mini in mouth respirators. He just had a feeling. They didn’t carry a lot of oxygen, but it was enough to surprise someone who didn’t think a race was aquatic.
