The science ensign nodded before they moved over to one of the consoles and tried to key things in to no effect.

The turbolift doors that the Captain walked in front of, perhaps unsurprisingly, failed to open. One of the security NEs moved to pop open one of the emergency deck hatches to allow access to the jeffries tubes. “Would you like me to go on point Captain?” He asked.

GM Dread

“Yes, please,” the Captain confirmed, after not walking through the turbolift doors. He popped open an emergency locker along the wall and took a phaser, a tricorder, and a flashlight before following the NE down the hatch.

“We’re going for Deck 5. We can probably just use the corridors once we get there… if we can get the doors open…”

Equipped with an emergency satchel over her shoulder, Vora was crawling through the jefferies tubes with an emergency door opener on hand if needed, making her way through Deck Two and heading downwards. At first she thought she was imagining it, but her sensitive Tenraith hearing definitely picked up voices. “Hello?!” she shouted up into the ether as she clung to the ladder, wondering how close someone might be. At least she wouldn’t be wandering through here on her own.

The security NE on point raised a closed fist to bring the group to a stop. He didn’t think that there should be any threats on the ship, but the situation was weird enough that prudence and protocol dictated the necessity for caution. With phaser in hand but not exactly aiming down the ladder, he shouted back. “Please identify yourself!”

GM Dread

“Lieutenant Vora Zorell,” she called back. “I have an emergency kit with me so I’ve been able to make it my own from Astrometrics.” She couldn’t help but smirk a little at the caution even as the emergency lighting cast a somewhat creepy glow in the jefferies tubes.

“Oh, Hi,” Johann replied, as he resumed his descent down the ladder once the pointman was satisfied.

Relief flooded through her as she realized Johann was there too.

As he got closer to Vora, he started conversing. “Hope you weren’t thinking of going up; power is out there too. We’re going to Engineering. You’re welcome to tag along. You didn’t happen to catch anything on sensors right before whatever that was happened, did you?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

“Yes and no. I saw a power surge that I can deduce was some sort of holographic projection but I haven’t had a chance yet to think through the implications. Too busy trying to get out of my dark room,” she said, her smile tightening. Vora trapped in small spaces was not a good thing. The jefferies tubes were different because she could logically see that she could move about and get elsewhere, even if it was cumbersome.

She flicked her headlamp on and began to descend the ladder again. “But holographic technology that powerful does raise some questions, I think.”

~Vora Zorell, Sciences

“Yes it does,” he said. “I don’t even think that we registered that bit about holography on the Bridge.”

How powerful could it have been? the Captain wondered. This species had very unusual power generation and transmission capabilities from what little they had seen so far, so he figured it could be very.

There were no impediments on the way to engineering other than the lack of main power.

… so then the group arrived in Engineering, as they faced no impediments at all on the way there.

“Status report, please,” the Captain ordered whoever the senior officer on duty in Engineering was. He was surprised that nobody had managed to turn on main power in the time that it took to climb down here from the Bridge.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Vora moved over to a console as others were working to check if there was anyway to pull the sensor data from Astrometrics to confirm what she had seen. She tapped the keys to see if anything was working down here.

A woman dressed in an engineer’s uniform peeked her head out from around a corner, her hands seemed busy out of view. “Ah Captain! Thanks for coming on down here and bringing a few extra hands with you.” A spark like sound interrupted her words as the engineer bounced back a couple of feet while waving one of her hands. “Ah that smarts!”

Putting a lightly singed finger in her mouth, she continued her erstwhile status report. “Main power is out across the ship. I know that’s probably obvious, but what isn’t obvious is that the fusion reactors and warp core are operating nominally. Something is preventing the power from travelling through the EPS conduits and actually powering things. I’ve been attempting to redirect power to anything that will work and I’ve discovered big power draws are a no-go. So shields, propulsion, the deflector dish, sensors… they’re not happening. Lower power requirement equipment I can get working for a very brief moment. Replicators, local forcefields, a one-way transport maybe, it really depends.”

She noticed Zorell attempting to access the console. “We could get power to that for a couple of minutes, but that will depend on what you want to do with it.”
