The air caressed her skin along her neck, sending tiny shivers across her body. Vora rolled one shoulder along with the shiver, and gave him a lopsided grin. “That’s not fair,” she said softly. “That’s almost cheating.” And yet she didn’t pull away.

“Al-most…” he taunted.

“You’re right though. I’m always happy to make new memories,” she said, turning more fully towards him. Reaching out, she traced the line of his jaw with the the tip of her pale yellow finger. Sometimes she just liked to gaze upon him, take him in. If there was anything that was true it was that there was always something more to learn about Johann Dvorak and she liked the idea that they’d have a lifetime or more learning. Together.

He wiggled his mouth slightly such that the hairs of his goatee would also rub against her fingertip as it passed. Which… didn’t actually do much of anything other than look goofy. So he stopped doing it a moment later, even though looking goofy was entirely on brand in a situation like this.

The occular implants that replaced his eyes seemed to focus rather intensely upon her own maroon irises.

It was a strange similitude that connected this moment to one so long ago. Though there was no whipped cream to wipe off his face. Strangely, despite her long history of self-doubt, Vora had never questioned that moment that drew them together. What it had been exactly that even made that first kiss come to pass. More than that, she had jumped in completely and unlike previous relationships, it hadn’t been a foolhardy endeavour. It could have been a disaster.

Leaning in to brush her cheek against his, her own breath caressed his ear. “Should I pull out the pith hat?” A long standing joke, but one that remained fun to this day. And in the back of her mind the very fact that she could make a joke after such a heavy conversation meant that she knew for certain they they were okay, and they would be okay.

“If I get to help you put it on this time,” he whispered. She would know what that meant.

Vora grinned.

He was delighted and surprised that he had been able to change the entire nature of this discussion that quickly. Everything with Vora eventually ended up being either easy or simple. The two were not synonymous. Everything between them that led to the origin of the pith hat joke was easy. The sequence of events that led to Jerrin being on the Europa consisted of many simple steps, many of which were not easy. This transdimensional other woman situation was complicated, and it was looking like it Vora’s part of it was going to be simple, but maybe it would end up being easy also.

Rising to her felt, the Tenraith reached out for Johann’s hand and, stepping backwards, led him to the bedroom. There was nothing left that needed to be said.
