Sllyro looked at the impatient away team members. Sllyro’s thoughts were hidden behind an impassive visage. “First, we’re not against the idea of sending some of you into space to attempt to assist your ship, however we will not be coerced or demanded into giving you our resources.” There may have been a pointed look at Marsh but who could really tell. “Second, we are unfamiliar with your technology so even if we had the means to assist we don’t know what other ‘options’ would actually be effective. However, telling me any sort of technobabble would be pointless since I am not versed in such things. In our command center, the building we have just entered, is the scientist who has developed our power infrastructure and technology. They would be a much better resource to converse with.”

Marsh looked at him, “The first thing I said after asking for assistance, was that I was sure we could come up with fair compensation for any of your expense. I would think that....” He paused and looked over to the XO. They were really annoying him so he was going to let the XO handle the discussion.

Avik had already prepared an answer, but Sllyro interrupted her before she could reply. The XO’s expression remained stony and indifferent while their host spoke his case.

As she suspected, Marsh let her handle this. Unlike the CSO, Vulcans were known for their detachment to emotions and patience. Something she was glad to have right now.

“Marsh is correct. The Federation will require a report over what happened from the CO and myself, including an assistance you provided. Any materials used will be replaced or paid for.” She mentioned this because of Sllyro’s statement and Marsh’s behavior, feeling a slight connection between them.

“We have no authority to force you to help, but delays will benefit no one. Your level of technology is not completely unknown to us and using our knowledge, we might be able to use what advancements you made to help the Europa. We can’t do that without your willing cooperation and materials.” Avik let the words soak in, her voice unchanged during the whole conversation.

“I cannot make the decision in such a matter, but the point is rather moot discussing it with me. I do not have the expertise or the authority to grant your wish. We will meet one who does shortly however.” Sllyro answered without stopping.

The procession continued through the building until they entered a large room that was easily three times the size of the Europa’s bridge. The room was packed with various workstations who had an assortment of the native species working them. At the front of the room was a wall that was like a giant viewscreen. The screen was sectioned into three parts, the largest part was in the middle and had a detailed view of the Europa lifeless in space, the two side views were telemetry of the space station and various spectrographic readings around it. Unlike the majority of the species having similar color themes of blue and green, in front of the extra large screen was a person who was colored predominantly yellow with streaks of orange.

Sllyro moved to a deferential position by this person and did an introduction. “Guests from space this is our chief scientist Sllyrasa. Honored Sllyrasa these are the crew from the Europa.”

When they arrived, Avik did her normal greeting with a bit of haste in it. She then addressed the situation, “Lieutenant Marsh. It is clear you want to get up there quickly, but based on the ship’s state, the evidence doesn’t support that our present will help the crew’s survival rate.”

“All due respect, XO, we don’t know what happened up there. They could all be unconscious, in a state of paralysis or simply unpowered.” He pointed up there. “They are up there, that is a fact… No normal event could de-animate a star-ship they way it is, in the time it happened. So we have to presume atypical events so we can’t know if one of us will make the difference. I’m willing to bet my life on it.”

The XO knew that wasn’t something Marsh wanted to hear, but she didn’t want him ignoring the facts, “To address your earlier comment, I agree we are unable to help immediately down here, but our lacking presence isn’t adding to the issues. While going over the data I know, I theorize our focus should be figuring out how we can provide power to the ship or life support in some way.”

She glanced at Marsh, hoping the CSO might agree with her suggestion. She recalled that in Earth’s history had invented something called generators which were small, portable power sources. Primitive, but effective for their era’s needs.

Sllyro took everything quickly toward the negative. She had had a feeling when Marsh spoke, that his words would be garnering this reaction and at this point, she felt she could not really smooth it over. Avik took up the conversation, speaking to technicals that Sienna simply didn’t understand. She was glad the XO had stepped in. She focused on the people around them now, trying to get a fix on whatever the telepathy capability was of this people.

Sllyro merely watched as the away team conversed about their options, theories, and differing approaches. Sllyrasa didn’t even acknowledge the away team’s presence at first. It was after a few minutes that he turned and looked at the away, with them being able to feel a psychic pressure from his mere gaze. “Your ship generates quite a bit of energy using an anti-matter/matter reaction. Is the corresponding elements being isolated magnetically from each other until the reaction rate is decided?”

GM Dread

Cassidy found it interesting that this new person of power didn’t go through introductions. Typically, others would introduce a higher ranking person and that was not the case here. But Syllro had said that this was a person who could say yes or no to them about different inquiries. Curious.

Feeling Sllyrasa’s gaze, Avik acknowledged her observed rudeness. She let the conversation trail off without any farther comments on her end.

“Apologies. Our information over what is causing the loss of power is very limited since we can’t contact our crew and the ship’s systems appear to be offline. We can’t provide an absolute answer to your question.” Avik replied, leaving room for Lt. Marsh to enter the conversation if he wished.

Abrams managed not to frown. “If I may, Commander…” She said before focusing on Syllrasa and giving them a bow of her head. “You are correct. We use magnetic fields to keep the components apart and then they are funnelled through injector coils into an intermix chamber where the reaction occurs. We can control the rate at which that occurs, yes.” She didn’t feel it was giving much away since these people obviously knew about their matter/antimatter system, if not the mechanics of it. They had guessed correctly how it functioned and it didn’t hurt to build goodwill by acknowledging this.

Abrams, COS

Marsh just looked back and forth between the speakers. They were stalling, why, what did they want. He gestured at his wrist like he was tapping a watch, tick tock.

Marsh

Sllyrasa either didn’t pick up on Marsh’s impatience or the cultural reference of such, or he simply ignored it. Instead he asked another question. “How is the resulting power conducted through the rest of your ship? Would it be possible for the hull to receive a stream of photonic energy and utilize it? I ask these things not to stall…” He briefly glanced at Marsh. “But instead understand how your ship works. We have a means to transmit vast amounts of energy, as I’m sure your observation of our craft has shown, and it may be possible to provide the initial power impetus for the ship to get itself in working order. This is a more time efficient approach than trying to send some of you up there.”

GM Dread

Inwardly she groaned. Marsh’s impatience was overly obvious to the point of rudeness. She turned her head to him and shook it in a firm negative to indicate he needed to stop and pull himself together. He should be answering questions and assisting the people who make decisions about help that could be provided. She could see why Sllyro had been unwilling to make any determinations, but was willing to lead them to someone who could theoretically help them.

Nox, CNS

Avik paused then gave Abrams a nod of permission to continue. It was simple, but encouraged their CoS to speak. Her eyes noted Marsh’s wrist tapping. She inhaled subtly and let the counselor deal with him. She focused on exhausting all her options including those within reach.

Interestingly, Sllyasa presented them with a possible solution to most their issues. She recalled Sllyro had mentioned advancement in other areas and hoped it might lead to a way to aid their ship. It turned out her theory was correct and would’ve been missed in their haste. Granted, it also led to more questions than she had liked. First, they needed to address the immediate threat then they could determine the source of it.

“From what I recall upon reading, the Federation ships use a power grid called an EPS, electro-plasma system. It’s based on storing energy in a energetic plasma form and distributing it throughout the ship’s via plasma conduits. It centers around the warpcore and expands to all areas of the ship. The power levels are regulated by coolant ducts and monitored by conversion sensors.”

It was an obvious text book explanation and condensed down from her memory. She hoped it helped some and allowed others to fill in what she missed.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“There are ways energy can be transmitted at distance, but those systems need to be modified to receive the power and would need someone working on the ship to finish the connections.” The deflector shield was one, he could reverse the tractor beam as well but Steven was reluctant to give too much information. “The ‘hard points’” which weren’t actually hard but the reference needed to be clear. “for base transfers of control and power can be employed without any modification by the crew, but it is very short ranged - we are talking meters. And again, there are switches that need to be handled from inside the ship.” He shrugged, “However the attempt… if it doesn’t preclude other options doesn’t cause harm so I think it would be a welcome option. Just in case they are waiting for us to do something and they can set things up.”
