Ready Room - Packing it in?

=/\= Yeah, so… uhh… we’re packing it in. =/\=

The old man in the Admiral’s uniform on the screen seemed uncomfortable saying these words. It was understandable; they made no sense at all.

“Sir?” the Captain asked.

=/\= We’ve been re-assessing Starfleet’s activities as of late, and we’ve decided to adjust deployments to fit our new posture. So we’re actually going to pull Europa back from the frontier. Along with the entire Black Fleet. And a few other fleets. =/\=

“Where will we be redeployed, sir?”
=/\= We’re still sorting that out, but probably Vulcan. Maybe Earth. =/\=

“What would we be doing there?”

=/\= Uhh, orbiting? =/\=

“Orbiting?”

=/\= Yeah. =/\=

“Orbiting what?”

=/\= Vulcan. Or, you know, Earth. Whichever. =/\=

“What about exploring strange new worlds?”

=/\= Uhh, well, we don’t really feel like doing that anymore. I mean, the truth is, it’s a tough business to be in. =/\=

“What?”

=/\= Yeah, we’re looking to get out of the deep space exploration business because it’s actually really, really hard. It doesn’t scale very well. Very labor intensive. Plus it’s risky. Do you know how big our insurance bills are? =/\=

“I was not aware that Starfleet was hedging against unlikely but damaging events through the use of financial products, sir.” It was a matter of fact statement, matter-of-factly said. Then again he did remember once reading a report about Europa’s collision insurance premiums going up after his first mission.

=/\= Well they’re larger than astronomical, believe me. So we’re looking to get into something that scales better. We’re thinking of nebular computing. =/\=

“What is nebular computing?”

=/\= Like you know… it’s like… the cloud, but it’s in space. We can lower costs for everyone and you can just hang out in orbit and not really leave the ship or worry about weird aliens or anything. =/\=

“The entire point is to meet weird aliens,” Johann started to say before the Admiral cut him off.

=/\= You know enough already, man. You can’t keep meeting all the hot alien chicks and marrying them. You’re not leaving any for anyone else. =/\=

“What?”

=/\= You’ve got a hot alien chick in every universe. I don’t even know how it doesn’t violate the second law of thermodynamics. There should be universes for every possible outcome, yet instead it’s only the ones with you and women. Alien women. At least during the first corner day. =/\=

“This isn’t real, is it?”

=/\= When the Sun shines upon Earth, 2 – major Time points are created on opposite sides of Earth – known as Midday and Midnight. Where the 2 major Time forces join, synergy creates 2 new minor Time points we recognize as Sunup and Sundown. The 4-equidistant time points can be considered as Time Square… =/\=

There was darkness, if only for a moment, as Johann’s implants powered on. He could see the ceiling of his quarters. Or what should have been his quarters. What could have been his quarters? He was confused. It was a dream, right? He wasn’t sure. Maybe he was traveling through universes. He tried to look to his left to see if the correct “hot alien space chick” was next to him…

OOC: Anyone may feel free to jump into this thread at anytime with anything.

— Johann Dvorak, CO

A soft sigh escaped her tan lips and Vora turned under the sheet towards Johann, her face, at rest, peaceful. Her own mind was spinning through variations of possible futures, each one slightly more bizarre than the last. It was getting pretty strange when her and her father were running a ship and looking for a missing Johann, who had gone undercover… or something? Who knew with dreams. But Vora always remembered hers and they made for interesting breakfast conversations most days.
