Inside the shuttle, Vora had powered the small vessel up and was focused on the sensors. =/\=Affirmative.=/\=

There was an almost imperceptible thud that vibrated through the deck and manual unlocking controls. It was unlikely that Vora would feel it but Johann and the engineer did. =/\=Okay good, that uh worked. I’ve never done this before but the procedures were clear. I just wasn’t sure if what has been plaguing the ship would’ve interfered with this too.=/\=

GM Dread

From inside the shuttle, Zorell skipped through the preflight sequences with rapid speed knowing that time was of the essence. The sooner they could figure out how exactly their power was being affected, the sooner they could connect with the away team on the surface.

Piper stood in the control room overlooking the shuttle bay and kept an eye on what was going on, she hoped that they would get some answers from the Captain and Zorell’s experiment.

Grant (eng)

=/\= Engineering, this is the Captain. Shut the reactor down now, please. =/\=

And then they would see if this would work…

– Johann Dvorak, CO

=/\=Acknowledged Captain, reactor going down… now.=/\= Engineering replied.

With the atmosphere already evacuated there wasn’t a perceptible change, until the lights went out. =/\=Uh, I wasn’t expecting that. Thought this area was running on the backups before this.=/\= The engineer replied from her position by the bay door. =/\=Lieutenant Zorell, how is the shuttle faring?=/\=

GM Dread

=/\=Working fine,=/\= she said, glad for that piece of good news. =/\=We’re clear to go, Captain. We can attempt to use the tractor beam to open the bay doors.=/\= She’d wait for him, so they could book it as soon as they were able. Provided this worked at all.

Johann untethered himself from the position he was in previously, and did the closest approximation to running that was possible with gravity boots to toward the shuttle hatch. He took a seat at the co-pilot’s position and started punching in commands to bring up the shuttle’s sensors.

After the Captain boarded the shuttle and the tractor beam was used on the bay doors, the doors opened ponderously but successfully. Through the gap in the door, space could be seen but it was affected by a shimmering field that covered directly over the entrance. This was likely what was covering the entire ship.

GM Dread

=/\=So the question now is, how to we disrupt it now that we have confirmation?=/\= And then there was the main question in her head of why. Why would someone incapacitate their ship this way? Were they treading too close to something someone wanted to hide?

~Vora Zorell, Sciences

=/\= I was expecting to have disrupted it just by shutting the power down, =/\= the Captain said aloud. =/\= I thought it might have been feeding off of Europa’s main power. Maybe it is, but disabling that might not have been enough to stop it completely. =/\=

He kept pushing a whole bunch of buttons on the console in order to scan the shimmering field to see what it exactly was. Maybe it was something they could fly through. Maybe it was something deadly. He couldn’t tell just by looking at it.

While he was waiting for results to come back, he also kept thinking about what their options were in a working shuttlecraft.

=/\= Do you have power for phasers? =/\=

– Johann Dvorak, CO

The results of the scan indicated that the opening to the shuttlebay was covered by a field of hard light, the type typically used in hologram technology. That wasn’t the only property to it however. The readings also showed the the energy field was leeching power from the ship but not all of the energy was coming from the ship to make it this strong. It seemed to be a balanced draw that only took enough to disable major systems and keep the ship effectively isolated, but not strong enough to disable everything including life support.

GM Dread

=/\= Looks like it’s hard light,=/\= Johann reported as data flew across his console. =/\= Or something like it. It’s also leeching power, somehow, by itself. So maybe we weren’t sabotaged in port after all. Shutting the reactor down probably didn’t disturb it because it’s being supplied from another source. =/\=

=/\= Dvorak to Engineering, =/\= he said, this time activating the ersatz communication system they had left behind on their way up here. =/\= Restart Main Reactor. Also, have all crew report to Battle stations. =/\= They were going to need the ship fully powered if they could find a way out of this mess. Anyone who could project this type of holographic interference had a lot of power at their disposal, so much so that he wanted to have the ship ready immediately.

He turned to look at Vora. =/\= I don’t think we should try flying through it yet. It could be just as dangerous as flying into a concrete wall on the Holodeck with the safety protocols off. Let’s see if you can punch us a hole to fly through with the shuttle’s phasers. =/\=

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Zorell nodded her agreement. “Activating phasers,” she said, targeting directly ahead of them. It was good to be focused on something like this right now as it kept her mind worried about whatever might be happening on the surface.
