“It does and it is as I expected. “Hypothetically, if there was an injury or perhaps even string of them and they went unreported, and it wasn’t so obviously affecting their ability to perform their duties, how would we proceed?” A suspicion did not make for evidence and before she took any action she wanted to have the lay of the land as it were. She could order a physical, and she might have to do that in the end, but if she could avoid it, it was her preference.

Seddk sipped his tea and then said “Failing to report an injury, or worse hiding them, is a serious offense. It can result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from Star Fleet. If anyone… hypothetically, of course… had knowledge of such an issue and failed to disclose it, that individual could face serious repercussions as well. That being said, if there was to be an individual demonstrating such behaviour as hiding injuries and no one was aware of it… I fail to see how it could be discovered unless it was detrimental to their performance or was discovered in the course of standard medical screenings or treatment.” And he took a sip of his tea and then said “Unless one was to look at the individual’s replicator history or inventory the emergency medical supplies of the injured individual’s workspace. A consistent and-or icreased usage of such supplied could be an indicator of this behaviour.”

Her long fingers tapped were wrapped around the mug and tapped as she pondered his words. He wasn’t wrong, and she knew what her role was in here. But things, as they often could be, were not so straight-forward. “And of course, no one wants to turn a blind eye to such behaviour, but at the same time if there was also a need to involve the counsellor, I suspect in such a hypothetical situation, that it would require… compassion and understanding, even if there are consequences. I would hate to see a promising career ruined because of a lapse of judgement that might be due to stressors. But at the same time I also recognize that a person in such a position could put others at risk.” She sipped on her coffee and sighed. The second they stopped talking hypotheticals, she would be required to act. It was the hard part of being a leader, and in these moment it sucked.

Vock inclined his head in agreement. “Indeed. And if, hypothetically, such a person did exist… it would falkto the Counselor and the Medical staff to care for the individual. And it is not good medicine to treat a patient with anything other than compassion and understanding. We are not here to judge anyone. We are here to ensure proper health… both physical and mentally and emotionally.”

Abrams blew out a breath. It was time for things to get real. “It’s only a hunch so far, but I noticed a member of my team favouring their side, like they were injured. I casually inquired if they were okay and they said they were fine. This is the second time in the last month that I’ve had that interaction. The first time I was inclined to believe them, but now I am concerned it’s a deeper thing. I know this individual has gone through a rough time lately, so I know that it’s not a normal thing for them to lie to me. I take this very seriously doctor and at the same time my instincts tell me that coming down hard is the wrong approach. I have no problem ordering them to get a physical in Sickbay if that’s what is required, but there are times I believe when a member of a team needs a friend more than a department head. So I guess if you’re on board to help, I’d like to find the best way to confront them. Maybe I can get them here and you step in?”
