=/\= Okay, we need to do the opposite of that, =/\= Johann said as he looked at the sensor output. =/\= It looks like this field can directly absorb energy from the phasers and get stronger. =/\= He kept pressing buttons, to do more scans. How strong was the field? Could they fly through it (he assumed they couldn’t but maybe they could)? These were all things he wanted to know.

If it was actual light, we could create a spot of interference, he thought. I would just need to know the right frequency to do that, but that’s probably not going to be that easy. Still, he would try to scan for that as well to see if it was an option.

“Regenerative shielding,” Vora mused aloud. “Often the only way to get through that is to affect a related system from what’s powering it. We don’t have that option here unless we can narrow down the source. If it’s outside the ship, we might be able to do something ourselves, but it would require an EVA walk, and I don’t know about you but I’m wary about such an adventure with so many unknowns.”

The scans that Johann ran showed that the field of light was super solid to the point where the shuttle would be damaged if they tried to force their way through. The frequency of the hard light was constantly in flux and there was no way to calculate or predict what the shifting pattern was changing to, at least without a fair bit of time or the main computer running.

“Well, nuts to that,” Johann muttered as he kept scanning.

Before any further actions or planning could be done however, a small alien craft moved into sight outside of the bay doors. It was one of the indigenous people’s tug boats. A bright light emanated from the front of the craft and it was observed that there was a pattern of long and short flashes. When written down the looping pattern was:

.. … / .- -. -.– — -. . / - .... . .-. . ..–.. / .–. .-.. . .- … . / .-. . … .–. — -. -.. .-.-.-

Vora frowned. “These are regular patterns of light… oh! That’s morse code,” Vora said, her mind branching to try and translate. “It says ‘Is anyone there? Please respond.” she said with a relieved laugh. “I can send one back, what do you want to tell them?” There’s no way these people would have the exact same emergency code system, so in her mind it had to be the away team’s doing. She exhaled, tension flooding out of her body.

He thought about this for a second. The message had to be short enough to understand.

“Send this: This is Europa. Power drained by field surrounding ship. Can you locate source and disrupt?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Zorell nodded, thankful for her eidetic memory. “Can do,” she said as her fingers flew over the console to deliver the message that would hopefully allow them to communicate with the surface.

  • .... .. … / .. … / . ..- .-. — .–. .- .-.-.- / .–. — .– . .-. / -.. .-. .- .. -. . -.. / -… -.– / ..-. .. . .-.. -.. / … ..- .-. .-. — ..- -. -.. .. -. –. / … .... .. .–. .-.-.- / -.-. .- -. / -.– — ..- / .-.. — -.-. .- - . / … — ..- .-. -.-. . / .- -. -.. / -.. .. … .-. ..- .–. - ..–..

She sent it off and sat back in her seat and blew out a breath. “What a day,” Vora murmured.

OOC: I’ve made a joint thread for the communication to be continued between both parties without my needing to telephone each message to the other. You can find it here: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/europa/posts/175004/

OOC: We still have to cross-post it so our comments in our own threads make sense in context. Do we really need to post it a third time if you simply tell us the communications work?
IC:
A response came through: |We haven’t detected a field beyond that which you have revealed from your weapon fire. The citizens of the planet have been helpful but we don’t seem to have the sensitivity necessary down here to see it.|

Vora sat back. “Huh. How does this help us then? They can only see it if we do something, and they can’t find us the source!” Did she sound frustrated? Probably. But this was an entirely frustrating situation.

OOC: I was thinking instead of cross posting everyone would post in just the third thread until which point the communication ceases and independent action resumes.

OOC Got ya… posted there
