Steven tilted his head and exhaled. “For me mostly, I have to be a good Noble.”

“He might b able to survive the shock of good wines coming from off world,” Marsh agreed, “And he is a Francophile, so New France might just be French enough for him not to lose his mind.” Steven smiled. “France is the best, Spain, is next Germany for some strange reason is next, then the rest of Europe. Then he can’t seem to decide if he hate England or The United States more. Generally its England if you don’t talk about the wine industry since England doesn’t have much of one.”

Resting her arm on the table, Cassidy listened attentively, as she did. She didn’t have much to contribute to the conversation but Steven Marsh was always full of interesting tidbits of knowledge. She knew his relationship with his father was at times complicated, but she would always take an opportunity to get to know more about her partner’s family. “I really should learn French,” she said.

Abrams, COS

“It is the most romantic of languages… Mon ouïe explose chaque fois que je vois ton belle visage”

“Well, it certainly sounds lovely when you say it,” Cass said, grinning at her partner. Her combadge translated his words for her, of course, but still, she thought she might get him to talk to her in French more often.

Sienna turned to smile at Cassidy. “French is beautiful but can be difficult because of the amount of silent letters in words. My family loves France and visits almost every time they come to Earth. That and Italy. My husband and I own a house in the south of France. We had vineyards surrounding our property and the gardens and grounds were expertly maintained by Guisseppi and his wife while we were not in residence. I am afraid I don’t have a green thumb, but I love being surrounded by gardens.”

Nox, CNS

Cass smiled. “I grew up on a colony, so while it’s been a long time since I spent any time planet side, I know the appeal of it.” Other than the occasional R&R, she hadn’t spent any duration on a planet’s surface since the Academy.

Abrams, COS

“You are both invited to the Marsh Estates. Horseback riding, pools, gardens, and of course food and wine.”

Marsh

“Sounds like a perfect vacation!” Cass said. “Rare things that those are for us, of course.”

Abrams, COS

Marsh half smiled, He continued in a slightly embarrassed voice, “It is just something I grew up with. I know most grew up with less. However shouldn’t keep us from enjoying it whenever we happen to get leave.” Which had been a long time for him.

Horseback riding, pools, gardens? Sienna was there. She smiled wide and felt so happy for the first time in a long time. The idea of having friends to take vacation with, to go some place personal for them, was appealing. It had been so long since she had had real friends, afraid to connect to anyone here for when she inevitably returned home. Now that she accepted at least the significantly low chances of that happening, she was allowing herself to connect with others. She rotated her wedding band and felt a pang of guilt for accepting this new reality as her own. Johann would understand.

“J’accepte votre aimable invitation. Quand pouvons-nous partir?” She grinned and then sipped her drink. “It all sounds wonderful. I miss horseback riding. I suppose I could do it on the holodeck though.”

Nox, CNS

Marsh chuckled, “Oh you speak French. That will make father happy.” He looked about, “I don’t know when is the next time you get leave. I know I’m due. Pretty sure Cassidy is too, but I don’t know how much the like department heads disappearing to Earth for a couple of weeks.”

“I… like horses, but never been riding before. I might need lessons on the holodeck myself,” Cass said with a grin. It wouldn’t be the first time Steven had given her lessons before. It was sort of their thing, come to think of it. Eyeing Nox though, Cass felt warmth for the woman. It hadn’t been an easy transition for her, that Cass knew but she had been very helpful when Abrams had had that incident with her junior officer. The woman had real skills and was nice to boot. A part of her wondered why they all hadn’t hung out here before.

Abrams, COS

“Well they horses are quite as docile as they are on the holodeck. In fact horses are very intuitive, if you don’t feel confident they can feel it and then they won’t do a darn thing you say. Its part of the reason why they are great for therapy. Such a large powerful creature completely in tune with their riders.”
